im not sure why there is a link in it but is is nothing important so u don't have to look at it

  3. A map for me not really, we should have 2 major things:
    - A way much better way to find players.
    - A way to bookmark planets and other to bookmark areas on such planets to be able to get a pointer on the UI when we return. ;)

i think there should be some sort of "Mapper" possibly on the ship. that allows you to generate a map (takes time).

These are the two exact things I was hoping for as well :)
Especially the point where we should have a way to bookmark planets - there are certain planets I love and its annoying just writing down the coordinates and such in notepad or something...

Though I really wouldn't mind a minimap, would greatly help with navigation.

I think we should have a map item like the one that minecraft has.
Maybe have it to were you find the material to make the maps in beta sectar.

In my days of exploring I had to draw the map myself on a physical notepad. There is absolutely no reason why that shouldn't be true for this game as well. Having a map in-game is way too convenient and easy.

I don't think a map is for this type of game, but it would be interesting for people that enjoy cartography.

I think the current navigation system in the game for planet hopping absolutely is horrible. When I'm a traveller among the stars I"m not just going to hope to random planets... Why can't I just hop to the next solar system in my sector instead of it randoming generating a startfield each time I click random ?

I want to have a choice to where I go , even if it is an illusion...

Once you're in view of the solar system, or planet right click and it will zoom out, keep right clicking and you can choose a new system to explore without hitting the random button. How lazy can people be that they can't press three buttons and click a star next to their current position?

My response to the map: No, no, no, no, no, nope, no, no, no way, nope. Compass and coordinates work fine.

For those opposed to the idea of a map: Why? What harm do you see access to a map causing? What aspects of the idea do you see as being most harmful?

if we had a map that we mapped out as we moved around that is all i would want , even if we had to make it

In addition to the suggestions Bacon said, I would LOVE a way to move where you beam down, through a tedious, semi-long process. I.e. building several machines and wire them to a 'beaming pad'.

I think the ability to change where you beam down is a must. As I have found several little Houses or buildings on the surface it would make surviving much easier. I think that you should have to build some kind of tech on your ship or something, like an addition to your transporter room for this to be possible, beam me up Scotty!

Map related, I think a surface mapping station on the ship would be cool, and maybe this is where you could change the co-ordinates of where you beam down. And perhaps the underground could be mapped too, but only showing Lit areas. Yet to view this information while on a planet you would need some kind of tier 20 laptop or something else that takes a lot of resources to create, that say, you must find on various planets before you can even consider crafting a map.

    Mappin' ain't easy.

i think there should be a ship upgrade where you can scan the surface of a planet, and see how the surface looks and what it has. it might cost something everytime this is used so it doesnt become an obligatory thing to do to each planet.

I think a map is EXACTLY for this type of game. Part of exploration is learning about and remembering your environments, otherwise you will forget it all in the flood of other information. Unless you are a devil-may-care sort who has no qualms about randomly exploring the universe with not a thought towards keeping track of where you have been, maps would be incredibly useful on both a galactic scale (showing where you have been, including notes) and on a planetary scale (to keep track of surface landmarks and unique biomes).
