A pre-order wouldn't be really nessacery would it? considering that 90% of the members are going to buy this wonderful game anyway. So what would the perks be of having it released sooner for some people? It dosen't add up.

To be honest I'm going to buy it on the day of release anyway :)

It is (only) my opinion that a pre-order is a good idea, but that it may not be necessary. It really comes down to the economics of the whole thing. I think what is probably the most important thing is having a beta that the community can get access to, so that they can a) help find bugs, b) get even more excited and tell their friends, and c) actually get to have a feel for the gameplay, which seems rather nebulous at the moment. However, if the devs have the money they need already lined up for the project, then pre-orders may be a needless hassle that takes away administrative time and overhead to deal with the bureaucratic nightmare of keeping track and fulfillment. There exist other options, like crowdsourcing and/or kickstarter, which can be immensely lucrative, but it might not be what the dev team needs right now. I like the fact that this community is small, friendly, and open. Having a big circus like that would draw more people, but with more people quality assurance becomes harder :p Anyways, thanks for listening, and my two cents.

I think that there should just be an item-less pre-order. Or something cosmetic like a different coloured username. Part of the bonus of pre-ordering is just the knowledge that you'll get the game when it comes out. Instead of say, having to keep spare money in your account until the day it starts.

    No poll? Tsk tsk.

Anyways, I do think pre-order should be made available, but I'm not sure what incentive there could be. Maybe a title of some sort I suppose.

I'd pre-order it, even if there wasn't a pre-order bonus. As people have said before me, it helps support the devs.

I think the money from Terraria is supporting the devs right now.
I don't like pre-orders because it means they can slack off or potentially slack off. Just the idea that you get money no matter what is a bad thing to foster.

In the sense of a TRUE pre-order, that is pay now, and receive your copy on the day of release, I think it's a great idea. In the sense of alpha access ,or in development access to the game, no. The team has already said they are not interested in allowing early access. Unlike Terraria and Minecraft, this company prefers to release a finished product, form which point they can add more and more content as they please. They have said this is something they hope to be adding to for years.

  10. I would pre-order regardless of whether there's a bonus or not. I just want to throw my money at these people for the cute graphics alone

    IMO: No bonus items.

Make it a beta access thing, but please, no in-game items, personally, I hate that.

"Why would people buy Starbound with the pre-order? What would they gain with that??"
    "uh... the game?"
"...oh ok then, fine by me :D"

Being able to pre-order the final game would not be a problem for me. If they game looks good enough or is something that I have been waiting for I would gladly pre-order it. When it comes to perks for those that do pre-order, it would depend. Early access to a finished product would be fine or even extra perks that don't effect the game directly.

I would like to be able to pre-order now, then get the game they day it comes out. Saving money is a pain sometimes. However, I don't think we really need a special in-game item.

Well, what if the pre-order comes with exclusive items, which will eventually become available for those who did not preorder?

Well, unless there isn't a hard copy, I don't see how a pre-order would do you any good. Unless you get some cool shizz on the mail and the download link as an e-mail as well.
