Not a problem. But I did feel it needed mentioning. Cave Story is one of the best games in the Platformer/Metroidvania genre, and deserves all the referencing it can get.

Was there even something in terraria that wasn't already a reference?

There might be a planet like Terraria in game.

Yeah there is. Redigit said so on IRC.

Sources make all the difference. Shame one wasn't provided yesterday, leading people to believe it was just rumors.

Yeah. Well I saw it in TheMurumasa's video, but didn't have the source last night. However he gave it to me earlier this morning. :)

Sense they are very similar games, and Tiy actually worked on Terraria, and sense I spend many many fun hours in Terraria, I would not mind some subtle reference somewhere. Nothing crazy, very simple and subtle reference though, like a Terraria's gold chest somewhere, or a sunflower, something that will bring the good memories of a good game while playing a great game.

No. Just, no. I want my Starbound fresh, fresh I tell you.
Of course, if they've already put it in there or if they were planning to anyway, then go ahead, go do that.

There's plenty of other references they could have besides Terraria references give me a break!

  10. I'm personally against it as well, seeing as the game's already being called 'Terraria 2' by some people. But if they were to add any references at all, it should be kept to a minimum. A subtle reference here or there wouldn't hurt.

I say yes. I want a planet full of Guides that you can only kill with a special item.

I'd love for the guide to appear saying
"They say there is a... Wait... Deja vu."
Also he gives you like random tips about terraria but says
they may not help you on your quest.

But it is NOT a Terraria sequel. It can be compared to Terraria yes. "Oh, it's a 2D sandbox game similar to Terraria." It's similar in that sense but it is in no way Terraria 2. That's the main issue, is that people think it's a direct sequel. I'm not saying don't compare it to Terraria. Hell, I use Terraria as an example when asking friends if they'd like it.

So yeah, I think you misunderstood me. It's bad that people are mistaking it for a Terraria sequel, not that they're comparing it to Terraria. Never said anywhere in my post that people couldn't compare the two.

Perhaps the guide could be visible on your homeworld that gets destroyed at the start, maybe as you're leaving you see him get killed.

Me and my brother talked about this. Abusing the intro as a tutorial for new players. It could be like you and a random stanger(different people = more room for references) escaping from the planet. Either the person dies on the escape or he survives and starts a life elsewhere.

MAYBE, Starbound is the prequel, due to the unknown force killing everyone...

(I know its not related, but this is what I'll think in my story)

Isn't the game a Terraria reference in itself?

Okay here's my idea, but it probably would not work because it would really make Starbound seem like a Terraria sequel, I just wanted to share a funny idea.

Okay, so since in Starbound, you're leaving your home planet that has been taken over by another race, how about the devs make that planet resemble Terraria. Maybe there could be a cutscene in which it shows you abandoning it, and you look out the window of your spacecraft, see your old house, and there's the guide looking up at you, a tear trickling down his face. You turn your ship around and land it right next to him. He runs up to the hatch, expecting to be rescued, when you poke your head out, and toss your guide voodoo doll into a small pit of lava sitting on your post-apocalyptic world.
Then you happily fly off into SPAAAAAAAAAAACE!

    (What have I done)
