Should devs play the game?

Yes, literally what the title tells.

In Minecraft, Notch often joined random servers and played a bit whit people, and speaked whit them about things of... Well, Minecraft.
However, in Starbound, devs seem to be even MORE in contact whit the community, so well, some people would really like for a dev to randomly appear on their server a play whit them for one or two hours (Me included)

Well, whether or not this gets discussed, I have the feeling this will happen anyway. It's hard to imagine creating something that you don't use and interact with. I'd assume they'd want a first-hand look at how other people interact with their creation, too, because people tend to play games with different perspectives and playing styles. Hell, I'd be confused if they didn't play with any of us, because after a certain amount of time playing with someone else, ideas are bound to flow, and bugs are bound to be found.

 

I think I'll answer a rhetorical question right now. OF COURSE they will! And it'd be understandable that the Dev's are very much into the community. We are all [Most of us] greedy little things wanting to know more and more about the game and attempting to solve hints given. I think we all are doing a good job on entertaining ourselves actually, but I'm getting OT.

Yes they should play the game with other players. It gives them a more direct contact with the players and more sense of what experiments are being done, glitches and bugs being found, and how their experience is. So in that case, why should they not? On top of that, who doesn't want to join the community in game?

 

Now what kinda question is that? OFCOURSE THEY GUNNA PLAY IT FOO!

 

Well... OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO PLAY ON RANDOM SERVERS! Well, then again, they probably have they're special dev private server... hmm. Oh well, but I'm gonna say yes, because, why not?

 

I think we've established a pretty firm answer to the question at hand.

I feel like it's pretty clear that they would. Not only is Tiy very aware of the community and its contributions to the game, the other devs seem like very friendly people and playing on servers would aid the game's development for more on-the-spot bug fixes and such.

 

It's fabulous, and fun, to play with the Top Brass.

And I'm sure it's fun for them to play with us. I haven't gotten the chance to play with any game creators in the few games I've played, but have farted around with a few "gamers"... however from what I've seen, this community seems very playful, open, and communicative.

And, VERY excited

 

I remember back during the very, VERY (I mean beta/alpha) early stages of Terraria, Blue, or maybe it was Red, mentioned that they were considering going to make it so that they could play with others on random servers randomly, and if they died they would drop like, a million blue seeds. Or something along those lines.

So yea, it would be cool to have the team come along here and then, it would be like meeting a "celebrity" in a way. Or maybe, they could do it like Nintendo does it and on special days if you log onto Starbound you get a special NPC of the developers that give you a gift or something.

 

I think the better question is: why shouldn't they?

 

It would be pretty fun if they did. I can imagine them coming on the clan server for the first time, everyone screaming random things, then following them around .

Yes, they will do that, it has already been said so by Tiy. And I hope the devs join me sometime .

 

OF COURSE NOT! Why SHOULD they play this? After all they only built it from the ground up out of scratch, tuning it and tuning it to make sure that on release it has given us the highest quality experience possible. Just because they birthed and raised the child doesn't mean they have to SEE it. The development team is to Starbound as the Trix Rabbit is to Trix cereal. I mean think about it... if YOU made a game like Starbound would YOU want to play it? I didn't think so. We don't need the development team ruining our fun by enjoying what they spent months of hard labor on, ESPECIALLY when they should be locked in their computer rooms making US updates to better OUR playing experience like the good little monkeys they are.

It would be hilarious if someone could beat every single dev. I'm not saying it would be easy, but it would be hilarious tho.

 

*looks at posts* I'm going to be devils advocate and just say no, probably not, at least not in the early stages when their desperately checking and rechecking code, hunting bugs, stuff like that.... Phhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sorry couldn't do that with a straight face!

But in all seriousness at the beginning, right after release for a month or two I wouldn't expect it, but after awhile it makes no sense to stay locked up somewhere and not use something you've created!

 

This is the most stupidest question I've read no offense but Sarzeal give me one good reason why they should play it just one.

 

To create a great game you need to love it yourself.
Of course the devs are gonna play it with fans.
