EDIT: As people had suggested, we should have the beta, however broken, in 2013. I think the release need to be pretty flawless, so I think that should be, at the very least, pushed back to 2014 for the sake of the Dev's sanity.

Now onto the topic at hand.

In an earlier conversation, Bartwe has said the following:

In his quote, bart has stated that starbound still requires months of work, even when they've worked all days of hte week on this project, and with only 6 months left in 2013, I fear they may be forced to rush to finished the project in order to meet the 2013 deadline, which would mean that they may not implement certain features in time, and forget them all together. This could lower the quality of the beta, and even the full game itself, and ultimately make everyone suffer. I believe that 1.5 million dollars, and all subsequent pre-orders can support them for a long time, so I think it might be best for the Devs to push back the release date to 2014, so that they may have more time to make starbound into a smashing success. As long as we have the patience to wait it out, starbound can be an amazing game. I don't want the Developers at Chuklefish to feel that they are stressed about the whole thing, and having an extra year to polish the game before its released could really make this game into the game of the year....of 2014.

I wouldn't mind official release being pushed back. I would hope they would be willing to release a beta before years end though, if it comes to it.
Put on your asbestos britches tho Spike, already donned mine, as this is about the second hottest topic you could have made after the last discussion.

with this large of a game i always thought the beta would be out by 2013 and that the final game might be out by 2014 so i don't see why not. it's a lot of stress; making a game. it's why i respect the devs to be putting this much time and work into making something awesome.

    Eh. I am patient, but not that patient. ;___;

I really hope that it's not going to happen.

honestly if they need the time they need the time. Also it wouldnt surprise me at all if it did take till 2014. i would be sad yes, but not surprised.

(aslo spike i think the thread you quoted got nuked so other might not be able to find your source.)

To be honest, I think the Devs are overworking themselves, and they could really benefit from a little breathing room from such a deadline. Working 7 days a week, with over 8 hours of work per day could put a massive drain on people, and I think the most merciful thing to do at this point is to put them down make sure they rest well, since their health is pretty important.

Please, let's just stop making these threads, one way or another, and just let chucklefish handle the details about the deadline. Somehow, I think they are the best ones to take the decision, dont you think?

Agreed. The beta can have flaws, but the release must be flawless; having an extra year to work on this would help with the polishing process tremendously.

Oh, you can click on the blue arrow next to the person's names on the quote to instantly go to that reply. It's like magic, only it's 50% magic. The rest of composed of tacos.

I'm surprised at all the level-headed people here. This is a breath of fresh air.

Even you good sir. In fact, you might be the most level-headed and rational person here.

The are working because they want to get the game they love out. Im fine for then delaying to late this year, but 2014 is too much. If thats inevitable, at least release the beta, and update it as progress goes. They said time and time again the release date is going to be 2013. They better keep their word (I honestly dont mind, but people will flip the eff out.)

I would preffer the game came out whenever the developers feel it's ready to be released, REGARDLESS of when exactly that is.

Late 2013 or early 2014 makes little difference to me so long as the game is playable and stable and the devs are happy with it upon beta launch.

Having said that, if their money run out before it's 100% done, say it's about 90% or so, I would hope they go the way of the Sword of The stars II producers: They ran out of funds towards the end of the game, and while it was a messy thing in the start, by officially launching it the sales granted them the funds to keep working on it and more-or-less finish the game with constant updates and fixes.

In short - I hope Chucklefish takes whatever time they need and don't rush anything, but should the worst come to pass, release it in whatever state it was at when funds dried up, making it clear that it's not 100% done when they do so, and then use those funds to keep working. I would rather play a sub-optimal Starbound than see Chucklefish scrap it and having to close their company or anything, that would leave us out of a great game, and worse still, the developers out of money and jobs.

I think that it would be okay to have a full release in 2014, it's what I expect anyway. But a beta release pushed to 2014 could have negative outcomes, like thousands of people wanting a refund for example.

I just expect the worst and hope for the best, I want Chucklefish to be successful, and I really do have confidence in the developers. :coffee:

It would suck. However if they feel they need the time or want it I will wait. That will push me back to WoW for some time though, better then wasting my time complaining about something I can not change. Thinking on going back anyways, I got alts to level.

Yeah, I would love for them to have all the time in the world, to release it when it is done. But currently that would just lead to mass rump hurt sadly.

To be completely honest, as long the began is released this year I am fine. If everything gets pushed back again, well let's just say that there is going to be a rather upset crowd... more so then now
