No, the current form is bad. The fact that you can end up "swimming in pixels" is not a good thing. The absolute nuking of currency on death makes no sense. If we were to drop it, to be able to recover it, it would make sense, but instead its gone forever, Wasting potentially hours of gameplay early on. And making it so that pixels are easy to obtain only makes pixels worthless as a currency, basic economics, you're just absolutely flooding the economy. I understand they want a penalty, but nuking a percentage of pixels is borderline sadistic. I play a game to have fun. If I end up losing all progress, then I have literally gained nothing from playing, and have wasted all the time i spent, time I could have spent on actually important things. Games should be fun. Permanently losing progress is not fun. Its simply a bad mechanic, rom a game theory perspective.

Pixels are used for literally everything progression wise right now. Including crafting, which makes no god damn sense, who am I paying when I slap this rock on a stick and call it a club? Pixels are currently the most horrendously broken game mechanic in this game, and I will not play the game vanilla if it isn't fixed. The current pixel setup makes reward a linear function, and punishment a quadratic. All it takes is making death linear instead. Lose a SET AMOUNT OF PIXELS because that actually makes sense, I'm paying to make a clone, it should have a set price, not a PERCENT OF YOUR TOTAL MONEY. Death by itself is already a punishment. You lost. You failed at what you were trying to do. You now have to get all the way back to where you were and try again.
But this? This is you lose, you failed, you have to try again OH ALSO I'M GONNA STEAL THE PROGRESS YOU MADE SO THAT YOU'RE EVEN LESS PREPARED FOR WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO DO.

    It's. Not. Fun.

The pixel compressor loses to having refineries and gems in storage. That's no secret.
You simply wait until you need money and refine some down or keep some saved overrefined in one refinery or multi.

You never need to repair anything
You never need to buy bullets (Bad mechanic imo as terraria adds awesome bullet types)
Mass buying food from a vender couldn't be cheaper at any level.
Mass farming jungle planets for vines couldn't be much easier low-mid level.
Unless they've change it crafting end game gear costs 0 pixels.
You can go through the whole tier system in 1-2 weeks
You only have to do that ONCE, EVER in single player as you can give other characters the upgrades and benches
In Multi friends can just give you stuff to make you end game. (Final tech + impervium armor/weapon or impervium ore)

40% is too high, but it barely matters if you play smart. you shouldn't ever need to compressor unless you pvp a lot or know you'll die to a boss/new planet tier a ton.

Terraria makes you lose money at death too
Minecraft makes you lose everything (Consider levels like money)
Diablo 2 made you lose a percent of money as well if I remember correctly
