Should Beta players be allowed to record?

I say yes. The people who don't want the game ruined for them will be tempted to watch gameplay footage if it's released & might actually give into temptation so they don't want the option to be tempted. But there's also people who aren't just tempted but do want to watch the gameplay footage. Saying no because you don't have any self control so you want to be forced into a cold turkey situation isn't fair for those that do want to watch the footage. Of course beta hasn't even started yet & from my experience most games I've played don't allow filming or screenshots to be released to those who don't have access but if it's a possibility I don't see the problem.

 

it isnt our problem, but for those without the will to control their inabilty to keep the hell away. Its their problem and they will eventually start blabbing around about the game and then, ONLY THEN, will it be our problem, cuz even without the video's we will eventually know whats up.

 

Honestly, as long as there's a Beta test there will be a beta tester that blabs so you end up in the same boat with the only difference being that people who want to see videos don't get to.

It's still their decision to watch them in the end
and it would be more unfair to play without letting other people in on what is going on

 

I'd rather not have the beta testers be the main publicists, there's no telling whether what they expose will represent the game properly.
The devs should be in control of what gets blabbed out.

 

They should be able to record. Youtube is a powerful marketing tool, and if it is used correctly can boost the sales of the game by A LOT.

 

I don't think they should be able to and instead, there should be a group of people who make a video series that is then given to the game's creators who then release them slowly as the game is nearing release to show-off some key features, in a way that doesn't spoil but just give a look into some things like the planet selection, running around a planet that isn't infinite, stuff like that. Rather than have beta testers focus more on recording video for their little youtube channel, have them focus on testing the game and helping to find bugs.

 

That's why the devs should do the videos.

 

And not the beta players...

Well, how bout the devs + you make the videos if you agree to present this game properly.

 

Chances are if you are watching a video of a CLOSED BETA you already know it does not represent the final product.

I'd say it's really up to how the devs want to handle it. On one hand, it'd be great publicity and depending on how much I want to refrain from spoiling anything until I can personally play I could simply ignore anything that gets uploaded/posted. On the other, if they're worried about misrepresentation caused by bugs or whatnot (which I honestly doubt would turn most people off) than an NDA would seem suitable.

 

Sadly, not everyone is aware of that. I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't even understand that a beta test is to look for bugs and think of it as something that lets people play early.

I've followed betas for a few games and there is always a crowd of Betawants who just want this
and not to do the followup bug reporting and the like
