    Hmm in general i advise against using very large rooms. I would place only one life support per room (performance) and keep it in the 50 times 50 tiles size region. Those vents actualy perform 2 scans and the first is done for 50x50 around the vent and if that didnt find a breach or a closed room it will go for 250x250 after that. I will look more into large rooms and vent performance in general in the next update.

    In madtulip\objects\life support vent\madtulip_vent.object
    there are some CPU settings defined if it performs to slow on your machine. Also there is the line
    "madtulip_scan_stage_ranges" : [50,250],
    which defines the 2 state scan of
    - scan to max range of 50 tiles first, if that doesnt find breach or closed room scan with range 250 again. actually im not sure why i did this 2 stage scan in the first place :). i think it was an performance optimization if you have smaller rooms. so the method used is called "flood fill"

    preferably:

Scipts which need to run on the player all the time are run on the Suit Tech like on a server you carry arround with you. A tech is the only space where i can access all player variables like your keyboard input (floating in space). The suit seamed good as it doesnt block any other tech slots (Every vanilla suit has been hacked to do our stuff as well). So if you suffocate its basically your suit that detects that you should suffocate and then starts the effect (the suits act the same a life support vent you constanly carry arround. if that detects a breach or a closed room which doesnt contain a vent, then damage is applied.). If you float in space its also the suit that does that (detects that there is empty space around the suit wearer and then alternates the effect of the keyboard input). There will be more scripts like that running on it.[DOUBLEPOST=1425372994][/DOUBLEPOST]another thought on the life support.: so if they work well you need only one per encolsed area (walls,background and doors). when you have a large ship and leave all doors open you basically have a very larg room and all the vents are redundant as they check the same space multiple times. What could help a bit would be to make the doors auto close say 3s after beeing openen. The area beeing checked (50 then 250) is memory which is currently pre assigned before its scanned. so it doesnt grow depending on if that area is realy required which is probabyl the reason why i scann in 2 size stages (1/25 of the memory for the first quick try). I could assign the memory map when the object initializes (map loads) and only once instead. bigger load times, less time required for each execution (once per second) i think. So yea, there is some optimization required here. Ill do that next.

    My previously told problems persist. I take damage in the ship even when wearing ship suit or air suit.
    But oddly when I have Spacesuit Backpack equipped I dont take any damage.

    Edit. I posted a screenie. It shows me taking damage right over the fan. With ship suit and no backpack.

    does this still have the instrument crafting station? or was that from another mod? last time i used this was for an avali server and there was a station to craft the instruments.

    Is there any way to reactivate or craft the ship research station? Missing out on the pixel compressor and the portable pixel printer .

    for the moment you could spawn it in using admin commands

    type /admin in chat and then /spawnitem researchstation 1

    Could you make a non-life support flavor of this mod? I just want to be able to build my ship block-by-block without all the worries/possible perfomance issues life support can cause, basically something like the original custom ships mod

    Edit: I am really wanting a non-life support version now since I always take damage even if im wearing the suit... I was trying to build a ship for over an hour with nothing but death so needless to say I raged quit very hard |:

    I have a similar problem. But until it is fixed wearing the Spacesuit Backpack from the first mission dungeon keeps me from getting damage.

    Did you equip the back item of that suit? I believe you need to have the complete suit equipped to be protected.

    I have tried several different platforms, and, for me at least, platforms DO block air flow. It could be a conflict with other mods, but it can happen.



    Also, I seriously LOVE this mod! For anyone who likes the mod, but hates the choking to death thing try installing a mod that adds custom suit techs. This will keep you alive until the life support is worked out. I use Your Starbound Crew for suit techs, in case anyone was wondering.

    Upon closer inspection, I see that I had the wrong pants on. They look very similar :rofl:. I still stand by my post about platforms blocking air flow though. Removed all other mods, and platforms of all types block air.

    ok so i love the idea behind the mod but all i have is the suit teck no suit to put on should it be in the locker cause its not there if its supposed to be maybe i could spawn it in and continue from there but as it is i cant leave the planet cause i start suffocating immediatly on my ship

    Man, I keep having the stupidest luck with this mod. Every time I try to build a ship, I end up accidentally removing all the blocks, except the unbreakable teleporter... and then I have to scrap the character, because I cannot build any more. You can't place any more blocks unless you have atleast ONE still present. Apparently the teleporter doesn't count, and can't let you place blocks on or near it. :I
