    So here is my idea:
I guess the title says a lot but here is detailed explanation:
    - The whole idea is based on some sort of gear that you carry around to call orbital strikes from your ship and on an upgradeable array of guns on your vessel.

    - So you basically upgrade it at you ships A.I just as any other device and each race has unique special effects on these. (for example the glitch orbital strike spawns a few drones that fight for you for a few seconds).
    - So how does it work? Well you have lets say 2 upgradeable guns on your ship , one that shoots a ray and one that shoots a bomb and you get a tool just like the matter manipulator or the paint gun that calls them down, once used they go on cooldown for a few seconds or minutes that scales with gun level and also a surface penetration and duration (in case of the ray) that does the same.
For example: The level 1 ray will last for 2 seconds, deal 50 damage per second and will go trough up to 20 blocks (2 minutes cooldown). The level lets say 5 ray will last for 8 seconds and deal 100 damage per second and go trough up to 80 blocks(50 second cooldown).
I know it sounds like a lot of work for very little but i think its a nice way to involve you ship more into the gameplay and also it has a lot of potential for future upgrades. Let me know what you think!

TL;DR: You will be able to shoot bombs and lasers from your ship guns that are upgradeable and badass.

This feels a bit broken to me, I like the idea of implementing the ship more but I don't like the idea of overpowered lasers that deal 100 dmg a sec, I know there are weapons like this but maybe something more subtle

How would you deal with the teleportation paradox?

You can use a teleport pad to go to another planet and still beam up to your ship, but your ship shouldn't be there...

I noticed that myself, I was wondering if was on purpous but it obviously wasn't

It would be cool if we had to go back to the planet our ship was orbiting in order to beam up, or use a teleporter, but that leaves the potential for getting stranded.

Yeah i did think about that. One good way to nerf this without taking away the badass factor is making this more practical in late game with some sort of cost for firing these guns, some sort of ammo you craft and load into your ship that should be pretty expensive. This way it would be used in critical situations when you are about to die. And just so it doesn't take away the fun they wont be able to be used in quest instances like the floran party (also because your ship isn't orbiting that planet as lazarus was saying). Its not much to begin with but in later updates they could be modified to drop off supplies or even be used in SHIP BATTLES if that is ever coming around.

I think this sounds better, one thing of ammo could be core ore fragments, as we don't seem to a nother use for it and it seems fitting

I might have misunderstood the "teleportation paradox". If this were to be implemented you could only fire on planets that the ship was orbiting. This could also be a limiting factor in the use of it, aside from ammo.

This sounds like a good idea, and I think you are onto something. What if the ship could actually go into the planet's atmosphere? I know what you guys mean about the paradox thing, but maybe the ship could only be in one place at a time. I would love to see that. But at the same time, the blocks on the ship aren't real blocks, so maybe not. Just a thought. =D
