    Hello Starbounders,

    i would like to transfer some items from 1 of my characters to another character without using any friends that could help me :p
    is there any way to do it?

    Thanks!

    The only way I can think of would be going to a public server, picking out a planet (or just finding a nice spot on spawn world if you don't wanna use the fuel) and then leaving things in a chest, swapping. There might be other ways, but this method should work, given that you don't let someone else yoink your stuff first.
    *edit* alternatively you could just have some private server with a friend or something, but yeah I think the main key would be needing a multiplayer world.

    Actually, your singleplayer universe i shared across characters. So if you find a planet, dump some stuff, grab the other character, and go to the same planet, you stuff will be there.
    You can find the coordinates of the planet in the navigation seat of the spaceship.

    Ooh. That's worth knowing, thanks for sharing. It's still a bit less fuel efficient potentially, but a good second choice, and I'd imagine a better method for continued exchanging of items.

    This is weird, if the single player world are sharing between characters, we can't restart a new universe at all. the world is modified from the 1st day. is it true?

    Is that true? Kind of cool if it is. Didn't know all your single player characters were on the same universe.

    I looked into the universe folder, and it looks like it doesn't actually generate the planet until you visit it. So your version 1 planets would still be the same, but every planet visited in patch 2 would use the new generator code. (But I could be wrong)

    If you really wish to reset your universe, just delete the universe folder from your game folder.

    Now, to explain why not to reset the universe, here's how it works:
    In other games, such as Terraria, each time you generate a world, it gets a number, called the "seed".
    It uses this seed for generating the random numbers.
    To make an example: our seed is 200.
    200 just happens to mean "forrest planet with yellow dirt, and 1 town"
    201 would result in a tentacle planet with green dirt and 0 towns.

    Now, in the Starbound, intead of having 1 world with a single seed, you have a universe, with ALL the seeds. That is, each coordinate is used in creating the planets, meaning that "random" is the same, every time, for the same spot.
    So instead of making a random seed, it uses the coordinates.
    Another example:
    x = 200, y = 400
    Seed = 000200 + 000400 = 0002000004000
    There's prettier ways to do this, but for now, this is our method.
    So, each and every universe will have the same planet at 200,400 because it's the same seed.

    Now, before you jump to conclusions, some things aren't bound to the seed. For example, chest loot is independent from the seed/coordinates, meaning that there'll be a chest the same place, but with different loot.
    That is probably generated from the millisecond (a common seed in random numbers) you generate the planet. (another guess)

    (1) Go to your Steam -> SteamApps -> Common -> Starbound -> Player folder

    (2) You'll see files for both characters. You need to differentiate between which file belongs to which character. For example, my main character's files start with "4ab0f4fccamaincharacterxxx..." while my smurf character's files start with "1au0fsdjsmurfcharacterxxx...". (Opening a player file with notepad will reveal the name of which character it belongs to).

    (3) Delete the smurf character's shipworld file. Then rename the main character's shipworld file so that it matches the smurf character. For example, using the above example, "4ab0f4fccamaincharacterxxx.shipworld" would be renamed to "1au0fsdjsmurfcharacterxxx.shipworld".

    (4) Start the game with the smurf character. Place the items you wish to transfer in the ship storage chest.

    (5) Undo step 4. Rename the shipworld file so that it once again matches your main character. In the example, "1au0fsdjsmurfcharacterxxx" would be renamed to "4ab0f4fccamaincharacterxxx.shipworld". Then restore the smurf character's deleted shipworld file.

    And you're done.
