From what i understand servers come in 2 types, Chaos, and controlled chaos, The 'good' server is usually the latte, basically admins making sure that no one is causing too much damage, also RP, because RP is usually very nice.

Just curious, but how bad can servers actually get when it's so unlikely another player will come across the same system and planets you are building on?

Ten thousand people on a single server, and you could potentially find a planet and live there for decades without ever being found.

However, if evil-doers ever find you or get on your ship (it only takes being in a party with someone for a few seconds)... Good bye everything.

That said, I wouldn't want to play on a server just to avoid everyone. That'd be the same thing as real life. :)

Considered you all spawn on the same world at first, expect the first planet to look like it just had 5 nuclear wars...at least in my experience.

The point of playing multiplayer is to interact with other people.

If you don't do that and hide out in a corner of the galaxy, then you might as well go single player.

I like playing multiplayer, but being alone, because I enjoy knowing that others are there. I can go visit them from time to time, they can come visit me from time to time, but otherwise, we don't cross paths often. Plus chatting with people who are actually playing the same game at the same time increases enjoyment because you don't have someone trying to rant your ear off with chat pings, talking about how shitty their boyfriend is, etc etc.

I was actually genuinely curious to know what else the could do to make things chaotic, not questioning the reasoning one would join a multiplayer server.

But to be fair, you can interact with people on the server while still settling away in your own part of the universe. Make friends, get to know people, then share locations and building projects with friends you make and people you trust. In essence this eliminates the chaos and griefing. Or at the very least limits it to the starter planet and other publicly known planets. I guess my point is you and your friends can always go somewhere where you don't have to worry about chaos.

Don't mean to take away from the title of the thread, as I'm very much in support of having a list of servers that have a horrible playerbase and admins.

Nothing good comes from such lists. It is better to list the good servers instead.

well i did state in the opening statement i wanted to hear the good servers too not just the bad ones.

when i started playing starbound on multiplayer, i was kinda shocked to see the chaos being at such a low level. i thought maybe i would end up having to move immediately out of the starter planet thanks to the starter player chaos or worse, endgame player chaos. instead you just see people actually building with each other trying to make a really cool fortification or maybe a nice little house over the hilltop to converse with others and the endgame guys helping out the new people. i thought i got lucky with the first server i visited. i stayed in there since.

as for the actuall chaos. it was people not knowing where to go or getting lost in the starmap. and then some unintended deaths due to fall damage. gotta love that fall damage.
