Serious Poll: Robot or Underwater?

Mechs are vehicles... the cybernetic being above is good though..

 

Unless it has a complex AI capable of self-awareness. Have you heard of the CAST in phatansy star online? Or the concept of an android? Same idea...

 

Yes I have...in fact my character in starbound is a A.I in a cloned human body.

thats where your wrong good sir look at the transformers series humans did not make transformers humans lacked the technology in fact they were trying to study/ reverse engineer megatron to try to gain the secrets to the robot technology

while an under water race could offer us mermaids or some other type of aquatic life form

a robot race could offer something like transformers /the terminator

i like both ideas but i voted robots if we can only have one . im not aginst compromise though i want robots you want something aquatic what if we satify both our demands and come up with a half and half hybrid 50% robot 50% sea creature and just combine the item sets for both

 

You have to realize you can't tell me I'm wrong for preferring aquamen. Transformers transform into what? Humanoids. Besides, we won't have anything like that in game, the robot is just going to be an android, or at least humanoid in some form. Because of the limits of a race (that they all are going to work the same, just have different gear) the robots are in fact simply going to be mechanized humans. So no, unfortunately they can't offer anything like transformers. That would be cool, but it won't happen because it would be something robots only, and the devs want all races to have equal access to everything. And because of this I would prefer to see an aquaman before a robot. I like robots, but, in this game at least, I don't have any reason to personally choose a robot.

Transformers are ridiculously ... Awesome. But wouldn't make much sense to use as a reference for robots in this game.

Also, you can't say that every posiblitiy for robots has been thought of before, or that robots are little more than humans that run or batteries. You also can't say that robots have to be made by humans, or that there isn't much uniqueness to a robot race.
That's your opinion.

Robots are the most versitile inteligent being I can think of because they can be ANYTHING. A biped. A squid. A tree. A Mothertrucking toaster. It's just that Starbound requires all races to be in a humanoid shape. So don't say that "A robot would end up being little more than a human that runs on batteries." because an avian is little more than a human with feathers by that logic. An apex is a human with fur, a plant guy is basicly a human with green skin, and an aquatic would be a person with fins. Nothing more.

Saying everything for robots has been done before is just not true. That's like saying there is nothing else to invent. You can say that robots are in a lot of games, but if it is a problem is up to you.

Robots also don't need to be created by humans, they can be made by aliens, other robots, or even gods, as unsciency as that may be.

I feel that instead of having to attack robots for being in other games, people should be saying why they think that thier race would be awsome in the game. Not trying to bring the other down to seem better by comparison.

I do know that you have said that you like robots as well, but please try and think about them in a broader light.

 

- I have to think that Robots would be somewhat like a Reploid, but more or less considered free and a being with their own life and awareness. Have you ever seen a Reploid city O_O... So much scifi goodness *Drools*

I voted Aquatics because... Well who doesn't want a friend like these guys !? But If it comes down to it, I want to play as a robot

just stop, bro. I didn't say robots have no possibilities, just that none of these things will be in game. If they were, then DUH robots would be a shoe in. But in starbound, they will be androids, because they'll be humanoid. I can say that they won't have much uniqueness, because uniqueness is a quality a person decides, meaning it is my opinion whether or not something is unique. I can say that, because it is my opinion. That's what this thread is about. Opinions. And the underlined part? Exactly my point, that is essentially what each race is, visually. I can say that a robot would end up being a mechanized human, because they will.
And that is why I didn't vote on robots, because they will be an android, and I personally am tired of androids, but have not seen anything near as many aquamen. I'm not trying to make either look better, I'm simply supplying my reasoning for choosing the way I did. I'm not retarded, I know the possibility for robots, but in this game, those possibilities will not exist, and so saying anything at all about those possibilities is a completely moot point.
Edit: Basically, what you have to realize is that I'm talking about the game, not real life.

From my standpoint, it appeared to me, that you were stating fact, not opinion. I did not see "I think", "I beleive", "IMO", or anything like that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but just because this is a post about whether you like aquatics or robots more, which is an opinion, it doesn't make everything posted here an opinion.

I used the various robot forms as demonstration that robots could be unique, and that the possible powers they could have would be endless, not as a demonstration for appearence.

I'm going to have to agree here. Neither one of you is going to win. Adurna prefers Aquamen. Darthkitten prefers Robots. These are your preferences. Stop arguing, I don't think either of you are using this as a chance to understand each other, and you aren't getting anywhere if you are. So just stop, or at least continue via PM.

When I said possibilities for robots, I meant for purely android robots, try and see everything as relevant to the game. I wasn't specific enough with my word choice, I concede, but I am not here to discuss which is better. The things you posted are real, and factual, but are irrelevant to the game, as well as things I already know. I actually would prefer robots if they were going to be complex, like transformers or something, or have wrist rockets and jetpacks and connons in their chests, or something really cool, but all of those things would be things that make robots better than other races, and I know Tiy won't do anything like that. Thus, I would rather see aqua. I would still like to see a robot, its just not my immediate choice, because of things I've stated before. Sorry for the ambiguity, but I'm not saying aquatics are inherently better than robots, in fact I believe the opposite irl. But because they would be equals in this game, I'm just more interested in seeing the aquamen, and that's all I was trying to say.

Just to let you know, I agree with you. But I'm not trying to win any argument, but trying explain myself.
