  1. Nobody ever said we can't.
No, really, I'm pretty sure they'll add both anyway.

    Well it all depends...

Are the robots going to look anything like a more classic box shaped robot or more like a robot from I-Robot but with a black color?

And are the underwater people going to be like octopuses/fish or more like Abe (fish guy) from Hellboy?

If both were at their finest and coolest looking forms... I would go with underwater unless they look classic and stupid.

  4. On average, over a third of the people on these forums want a robot OVER an aquatic.
That's not to say that they don't like aquatics, and that's not to say that aquatic likers don't like robots too.
This is the most voted-on poll I've ever seen on these forums, and if you make a big enough impact, people WILL notice.

Chucklefish's unique pixel art style will do both races justice, it's a win|win situation (for most?). :proper:

Finally I find a good picture depicting what I imagine when "Aquatic Race" comes to mind.

These are Merfolk. No fish heads, no tails, no tentacles, purely humanoid. The perfect example.

    very good points here.
I started typing to try and create some counter arguments, but I realized that, in do so would make me a huge hypocrite.
but i will say, is don't pick aquatic race for the wrong reasons, we shouldn't pick anything because of the artstyle of furniture or items they may have, because Tiy never gave us the option of picking anything like that.
I'd pick the race you would rather see your character play as. items and such should be a secondary thought.

I think they kind of are the same decision, when we get down to it. If you want to play as a robot, I'd say that also implies you want robot themed content as well. I'd say, though, we definitely can't pick based off what we think either race will look like, like you said earlier I beleive, but rather which overall theme we like more. We have no idea what any of the content or the race themselves will look like (but from what we've seen so far, we know it will be good) and so all we really have is the "idea" of robot, with robot themed content, or some form of aquatic man, with aquatic themed stuff. Basically, we have to decide not on "if blank looks like blank, then I choose that" but instead choose "well, creatures of the deep are fascinating to me, so I choose aquatic" or "artificial intelligence is my favorite aspect of scifi, so I choose robot." And I agree with you, people here need to stop trying to argue over which one is better, because this is an opinion poll. If someone posts "I like aquatic because..." then that is their personal reason for choosing the way they did, and you can't argue over opinion, only facts, and since we know nothing about what either of them will be, we have no facts to argue about either.

I completely agree with this. It is the reason the only posts I have made in this thread have been to point out and correct misconceptions about modern robots, as that is factual information I can back up. Debating with the goal of changing the other person's opinion is a pointless cause. The only reason to debate opinions is to better understand the other person, and their opinions.

Judging someone to be a moron based on their opinions is exactly what I try to avoid doing. That looked like a joke to me though.

  16. It was half a joke. Some opinions are harmless and they're fine (preferences, favorites, etc.), and from context I assume these are the ones you're talking about. And you're right! They're not worth a fight or derision.

But I genuinely believe there is such a thing as a "stupid opinion." They're probably on Youtube or Facebook somewhere.

Hmmm.. I think the closest you could get to a so called "stupid opinion" would be someone who is stubbornly ignorant. So like, an opinion based on a "fact" that is untrue, yet they refuse to let you prove that it's not true. Ooh! I have a good example. Someone who says "dubstep isn't music cuz it's just a bunch of noises" when anyone who knows anything about music will tell you dubstep has both musical chord progression as well as rhythm. Like, it's fine if you don't like it, but you can't deny it's still music.

Undoubtedly, but is not the flesh simply a vehicle for the mind? The food its fuel and electrical impulses the commands and feedback?
Scale down the vehicle, give it it's own mind, and you have a sentient being more easily recognized as an individual.
