An underwater race. I don't even know if robots are counted as a race, since they need to be built and maintained, but there should definitely be robots in the game. Perhaps they protect or do work for another race, either their creators or people who stumbled upon them.

Underwater now, I realised how wrong I've been.
    We. Need. Gillians.

  3. No thanks, I prefer Glunaughts despite their popularity.
    (After robots obviously.)
The races must not exit the human outline other than hair.
How could a robot not be considered a race just because they arn't made of flesh?

As long as I don't have to fight Lobstermen on Terror Missions, I'm all for Underwater.

They shouldn't be a race because they'd need people to take care of them. Someone would have to create new robots and fix existing ones. Arguably, robots could create and maintain themselves, but someone would need to oversee that, too, to make sure that system didn't break or glitch up. I'm suggesting that they're made by another race as laborers and soldiers.

  6. GLaDOS, a robot that I'm sure you're familiar with, makes her own robots.
Who's to say that you need a fleshy, inconsistant meatbag to mess up the controls?
And gliches are just a robot's versions of mental illness. Somthing that all humans suffer in some degree.

I would again like to point out, that most robots designed even today, are designed with some form of water resistance in mind. Not full on bottom of the ocean forever, no, but submerged in liquid for a period of time. In some cases, where the designers were particularly forward thinking, the robots even pump the water through their systems for cooling.

Electronics and water can play nice, the designers just have to know what they are doing.

That's true. I'm not saying "Don't make a robot race." Simply: "It doesn't make total sense to have a robot race." Things making total sense isn't a high priority, i imagine, compared to making an awesome game. So I'm all for it.

By the Nine, that's brilliant! I really can' argue with that.

No I mean splitting the hydrogen from the water to then utilize in fusion.

water-based fission would be a net-loss of energy.

Agreed, its dependent on the design. Scientists use robots for deep sea exploration after all.

I think people are creating way too complex reasons for choosing each race.
people are trying to enforce their reasoning by explaining how their chosen races lore could work, or to refute another persons claim to lore. this isn't the kinda game that it would matter all that much.
or explain how their chosen race fits better in a game-play aspect, like dungeons or perks (probably no special perks anyway, so don't assume just because it called an aquatic race means they'll have gills).

please don't assume this choice would have serious repercussions, the most it would probably change (outside of aesthetics anyway) is maybe a new village type is added.

The simple question is; would you rather play as robot or a fish-man?.

I agree with what youre saying, but its actually a whole lot more than just "maybe a new village type." Each race has its own set of items, meaning furniture, weapons and armors with unique attributes as well as art design, and also possibly even unique quests, as race specific quests has neither been confirmed nor denied. Also, every race has their own artstyle, which means definitely new styles of cities, towns, or villages as well as temples and/or dungeons. So actually, there is quite a large chunk of content that will be affected by the decision.

I dont mind fish people, honestly. Its just you have more room to play around with if they were robots. Aesthetically and well as game play wise. (i was not mentioning the races will have special traits, but rather the race specific things, such as weapon design, and dungeon design)

  19. The primary aesthetic I care about is the only one I am certain this would affect: what the character will look like.

Equipment, lore and architecture are beyond my concern. I'm confident Starbound has a variety of those in abundance already.

I don't get it. Why can't we have both? Last time I checked there were only four races currently in.
