Serious Poll: Robot or Underwater?

Anyway playable characters are fully cosmetics. Avians aren't able to fly but they have wings.

 

I never mentioned abilities. I only mentioned the aesthetics and how it would most likely, since it says underwater, force underwater to reach the dungeon. after many times of going under water i, in my opinion, would get bored of the underwater dungeon. "Oh look water, better start looking for a dungeon." Robots just seem more diverse in the sense you can do much more with the placement of the dungeons, and now villages, (just confirmed).

i believe they dont have wings. the generals have "wings" as in jet packs. i havent seen a screen shot of avians that have natural wings.

 

Well I believe it doesn't have to have water. I can have starfish lights and coral lamps and stuff like that. If you think about it you have more to make up with an underwater race which would make it more interesting but a robot race would just be full of things you have seen before.

 

I know i just dont like what "underwater" implies. and dont you thing fish themed stuff gets a little boring after a while.

 

So, I'm guessing like the Avians, the Aquatic race will have underwater ruins to fit their theme?
What would the robots have I wonder...

- If you think about it... Both of these races must have the possibilities to adapt enough to become starbound right? So I guess over time, The robots became water proofed (cause... even we have that technology... meh kinda) and the underwater race probably gave up their gills to stay on land or were actually mammals .__. like whales... or something. So I guess there's no reason for them to have any faults or environmental weaknesses I guess. imho any how.

There are so many ways either option can be interpreted. Some quick examples:


Personally, I am more inclined towards the humanized variants, and given how the existing races so far appear to be sharing the same silhouettes (minus the head), it seems most likely that that's the direction the next race will go in as well.

 

All of these look so well i would want both races if these were the models

 

Though... I'll just say this, I'm not too fond of the head tentacle thing going on there with the Merfolk. Let's just keep things simple and just stick with the finned ears.

Nautolans. Everybody loves some Kit Fisto. But yeah as far as sprite conversion, simple is usually better. Those are awesome drawings from Bietol though. Wish I could do that (I've tried and failed miserably, no talent at all lol.)

Incidentally Star Wars has underwater robots too. So there's precedent for that, even if you ignore the logistics of running a machine underwater (and how Lucas seems to mess with everything that is good in that universe....) Smarter people than I have suggested such ludicrous notions! That's why we call it science fiction I guess. (Although by that logic everything in fantasy media can be explained away with the blanket statement, "it's magic!" so maybe I'm full of it.)

I also think that cat-driving-robot thing would be awesome too. You expect some sort of head but instead its a cat, kinda thinking outside the box in terms of character design. Similar to the (somewhat overused) fishbowl-as-a-head thing, which has seen use in games such as Terraria, Earthworm Jim and a few others that I suddenly can't remember ("call me OLD man.")

Yep.

The point being to say "Dudes, don't be like 'I don't think underwater/robots will work because I don't like clams/lawn-mowers.' They have so much more potential than those limited examples."

Though on the flip side, whatever awesome idea you are thinking of is also likely not to be realized, so I'm not sure what I'm driving at here.

 

That Merfolk you drew gave me a bit of inspiration to draw damn it! And now I am sitting here with my own interpretation of one on paper.

There's something about Merfolk that appeal to me... I just don't know what...

 

Two words: Robot Frog

 

The next race shouldn't be humanoid looking. It should be a jellyfish-like thing that uses its tenticles to use tools.
Tiy should get creative on these sprites.
