I'm getting serious lag issues on Starbound that I haven't seem to have gotten before. It's been a while since I've played since I wanted to come back to a lot of cool updates, but going through the game I notice some serious FPS drops. It wasn't until I got to the mining facility that the game became completely unplayable. I've disabled vsync, I've tried playing in 32/64 bit open and not open GL, and I've even started over a new world, it's just not playable.

I've heard in the past that this game has never agreed with AMD graphics card, so I'm wondering if there's a step that I need to take in order to not deal with the drops, or will a dev be able to tell me if there's going to be love for AMD users in the future? To prove that I've got the PC capable of running the game, here are the basic specs:

    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Video Card AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
    Memory 16 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit

Thanks in advance, I've been playing since early beta so I know they're working hard on the game, I'm just curious if this is known to the devs at all.

Your GPU is quite old despite the rest of your system. I wouldn't be surprised if that is part of the issue.

On the other hand, the game hasn't had a proper optimization pass, as far as I am aware. Once that happens, it should improve performance across the board for everyone.

The fact that I can run games such as Skyrim and Metal Gear on max settings well over 60 fps gives me reason to believe that I shouldn't have an issue with simple 2D processing, and the rig is only 3 years old. I'm assuming it's optimization, I was just curious if the devs were going to mention optimizing for AMD anytime soon.

Starbound may be 2D, but it is much more demanding on the internal side. Graphical quality is not the end-all for figuring out performance. The performance issues were actually related to AMD CPUs, based on my highly unscientific survey of support thread.

But anyhoo, since we are talking about Stable here, it is kinda moot. They have been doing optimizations in Nightly.
