Just so long as you can't use the sentry guns to farm bosses (or at least make it take a prohibitive amount of work) then I would absolutely love sentry guns.
You should have to build the sentry post and then attach a gun to it. Maybe put the bullets in the post and it stops shooting when it runs out. the post could be like a chest and you could attach, say, a sniper, and it auto fires it. Also, it shoots any player but you unless you do something to prevent that like scan them with a certain gun or something and then click the sentry. Then it recognizes them and doesn't fire.
IMO on the harder planets defenses like these should be absolutely necessary if you wish to have any kind of long term base there.
I compleatly agree, because wasn't it said that at a point you will be finding planets with such an insane amount of difficulty you have to use every resource available?
Turrets should: Modularity, a lot of modularity! Require energy (wire from the generator to the base (his power shall be limited to), the solar panel (low power), battery (energy come to an end after a while)) Balance (no loot from killing monsters, a moderate amount of damage) Lots of modes (only monsters, monsters and players, specific players, all but me, everyone except me and the %username%) Hell, it's really hard to implement, the main thing that the team coped ------------------------------- О боги, как это будет круто!
my opinion about sentrys: You place them and connect them to your energy generator. you can place ballistic or energy weapons on sentry posts.. you also have to connect the sentry to a targeting computer. with the targeting computer you can select the targets: players,mobs, penguins,potatoes and so on. an energy weapon drains you more power than a ballistic (they need power to operate, cause of the servo-motors, and by the way: connect the targeting computer with the generator/battery). if you select ballistic, then you can place conveyor belts. they will supply your turrets with ammo if they are adjanced to a storage (chest, box or whatever)
If this "Sentry" was put into the game, I have to be able to throw it on ceilings, walls, and at people. Imagine, it would be a smaller sentry for infiltrating perimeters full of enemies. It would have a bullet span of 70 shots, but can be replaced with more ammo. Fabulous. EDIT: It would have to be a grenade type, it could either be a timed grenade, or contact grenade (deploys when in contact with something).
Absolutely my thoughts. If anyone remembered the "base" on char in the Wings of liberty campaign of SC2, where there always was a battle in the background. That's the kind of feeling I would like on higher level planets if I decide to build a forward base there.
I can't see why not. Mr. Pyro from TF2 seems to approve of it, anyway. Heck, we could even add oil traps... hehehehe...
gender reversal sentry: does no damage, other than complete and total mental obliteration. Cake sentry: the cake is not a lie! (just an object approaching you at lethal speeds) Surprise! sentry: Horns blare and confetti and balloons fly about when you step into its activation range, then it guns you down while you stand there wondering what that was all about. Plant sentry: small bottled sapling with a hypergrowth chemical formula sitting next to it. the formula is applied to the sapling when you walk near it, you die by tree.
