So the idea is to be able to change your own body in a lab. It would work in a similar way like random-monster generation, just you would be able to pick the parts you want for your body. You would need specific upgrades in your lab to let you change your body in specific ways Some upgrades would be mostly cosmetic, giving an utility buff and wouldn't use up an accesory or amor slot - for example gills would allow you to breathe underwater. There would also be certain parts which would take up an armor slot, but they would increase your defence to compensate too - for example bull horns would take the place of your helm and would increase your armor and melee damage. Hooves would make you look like a satyr and take the place of your shoes. Hooves would also buff your defence and movement speed, for example. You would need specific items and some pixels to research each new body part that you will be able to use. You can make up to 5 changes to your body at one time. Max 3 utility changes and 2 large changes. When you have unlocked all bodyparts, you could make one last upgrade. It would enable you to open the body changing screen right on the field. Not during battle perhaps, but without returning to the ship. If you want your legs to look as a satyr's would, but you found better armor, there is a compromise. You can make your legs merge with the new armor, making them look like satyrs hooves, and yet keeping the stats of the armor. While this is in effect, you may not unequip the merged armor. But neither can anyone else with "disarm" or other skills of this kind. Certain things might cause mutations too, which might give you certain "surprises". I know it still needs tweaking and changing. So comment and tell me what's good and what looks like nonsense. Also, it would let people choose what they want to be better. I know the devs can't create enough races to satisfy everyone, so using this you could make yourself look like any race you want.
They would be both. Most would be cosmetic and give some utility buff - like breathing underwater if you pick gills or being able to jump high if you picked wings, or being able to climb if you picked claws. But some could be in place of armor. For example bull horns would take the place of a helm and give you armor. Hooves would make you look like a satyr and take the place of shoes and also give armor and movement speed. And so on.
I believe Tiy wants the power of a player to be purely (or 99%) based on the equipment that player has. Recreating your own body is fine, but unless the devs are alright with race imbalancing, it will be purely cosmetic.
You don't understand, you would be able to change it like you would be able to change items. It wouldn't create imbalance any more than different weapons do. I revised it to make it more clear.
What Shifter is trying to say is that it would be like the gear in Terraria, but more of them available, you could have jetpacks, wings, underwater breathing, and GPSs in Terraria.
I would think that while you have a part of a body enginereed, then you cant wear armor on taht body part. (example: Wolf legs= no armor possible on legs)
As awesome as this idea is, I'm not sure what the devs will think of it. I support it wholesomely, though, even if I may never use it.
Added limitations. Also, making the large kind of changes(like hooves) would take the place of shoes. So if you die, you don't lose them. It's also to make the player feel like counting on his own strength rather than on items. Couse i like the beastly kind of battle, clawing at the enemies with my own claws sometimes rather than trusting some metal stick to poke them. The large changes would replace armor, so they would be the equivalent of it. The small changes don't help you in battle really - they are utilities rather than anything else. By the way, i updated it.
But they do add bonuses to make up for it, like for the wolf legs, you get extra speed and jump power. For wings you could glide/fly like terraria, but some wings are stronger then others. Like sparrow wings are weak but alot of flaps, eagle wings are extremely strong and great gliding, but not many flaps. (maybe if you get the full bird set you can have alot of flaps for any wings?)
Its super cool Imagine turning all bear and rampaging through the forest, killing everything in your path!!! Or a shark in the water! Or a eagle in the sky. Very strange idea for a sci-fi game, but it could definately be possible.
Due to the highly random nature of armor, it will be difficult to have the new body part be it's "equivalent." What if you're still capable of "equipping" the armor, but the body part which is in it's place takes the stats of the armor while maintaining it's look?
That's the idea. The devs can't make a race to fit each player. So instead you could make yourself like any race you want. It shouldn't even be that hard to accomplish since they already did something similar with the randomly generated monsters, Just here you could PICK the upgrades.
Hm... Perhaps that could work. Like, absorbing the armor and merging it with yourself O_O The stats would stay as if you were wearing the armor, but the looks would be different. Great idea! I'll add it at once.
But if you equip the armor you dont have access to the bonuses of the body part. (or what shifter said >,>) Its a cooler and better way of custumizing yourself, for all the animal lovers out there
Wierd, but sure. I think the devs could live with modified movement abilities (like if you become a shark you have affinity for water but lose some ability to be on land).
Yeah. And what do you think about what i said earlier? That it wouldn't be that hard to add this? It's quite similar to a merge of random monster generation(made randomly from seperate body parts) and items. I mean the body parts are like those from random monsters, and the way they are added are like items.
I'm not entirely sure as I'm not familiar with the workings of the Starbound engine, but if it's anything like I think it is, modification of the body would just consist of a rewrite of player rendering code to support "body merging" the same way randomized generation does. I think it would be possible.
Maybe to change we need to get the DNA from the animal, like capture 50-100 of them, depending on how hard or easy it is to tame them.
