Seismograph + wrist meter

I brought this up in Afterscore's thread about timber supports.
Natural disasters such as earthquakes would be very cool.
And so, you would need a meter to measure the seismic activity for each planet.
    Or not.

The meter would be placed above ground before you mine/enter a cave, and send signals periodically to your wrist meter to let you know of incoming seismic activity. (Volcanoes anyone?)
Of course these planets of high seismic activity would hold higher tiers of items and ores.

Hmm... A seismographic satellite type thing?
That would be an interesting mechanic.

ohh, this would be a fun thing to mess around with.

A possible high-tier upgrade to this satellite could be an earthquake reduction beam.
Like a gravity ray that could temporarily reduce or prevent earthquakes entirely.

If you come across a planet that has frequent earthquakes and have this satellite, you could mine and explore with no problems,
yet someone else who comes across, or you share the coordinates, could not without some serious casualties.

gosh this game can go so futuristicly scientific its beautiful. i love everything this game will soon be. well hopefully soon.

I think this would be a necessity given the wide range of planet turnouts thanks to the procedural generation. You could also ascertain other features about the planet too varying from the gravity, the percentage of water vs foliage vs land and other things that are included.

Perhaps while you have the seismograph wrist meter equipped (that's another question, would it be equippable or would it function while in your inventory?) the likelihood of an earthquake could be monitored by a Richter scale somewhere on the screen, or perhaps it emits a low beep to warn you of an earthquake that may be approaching soon.

I can't wait to see what the devs come up with.
It's space. So the possibilities are technically endless..

then again, space is limited. =p THINK OF THAT ONE.

I would say that when the wrist watch is not equipped (in your inventory) only beeps and blips would be made.
But when you actually equip it, a layer could be added to the HUD, like you said, that could add numbers and scales.

    On a side note:

The devs said something, or maybe I heard it, about mountains.
This adds landslides to the possible casualties of above ground earthquakes.

Not to mention ruptures in the planets (chasms), floods, tidal waves, etc.

This would have a massive relation to the satellite if it could read the "water vs foliage vs land" on the planet.

I would love to see active volcanoes this time around. They have terraria to build off of really, redigit pretty much gave these guys the honor.

While that is a possibility, what if you were to mine down that "brick wall" at the end of the universe...

ugh im not even gonna try and think about the actual universe right now. i could talk for days about the loopholes of the known world.

hey now, lol im not being all badass. i had a phase in my life were i literally could not sleep because the thought of this scared me so much. now i just have so many ideas and theory s that would just bore you all. and bring up bad thought haha. Excellent meme post tho, one of the bests.

This is a really good idea.
Now, its really hard to predict earthquakes, so maybe just a seismograph instead of a "earthquake detector"
Earthquakes should start lava-rain from volcanic planets, or tsunami's in oceans with islands suddenly rising out of the ocean, Or the ground itself splitting open in the normal ones.
Now, what would be really cool, if you had a underwater base, and you could make a earthquake rise your base up to the surface, for you to prance on over, and activate it again when you're inside, for it to fall down again. Would be bad ass.
