I know this isn't gonna happen, but what if before starting a new game and after creating or choosing a character, you could customize the universe like in galactic civilizations 2. I mean something like this: I mean having some kind of sliding bars that dictate how often you can find solar systems, hahabitable planets, asteroids, moons, unhabitable planets, other civilizations, intelligent life on other planets, structures on other planets, dungeons and whatever else the game has to offer. The devs stated that everybody will have the same unverse and the same planets can be find at the same coordinates (seed), but i find this rather obsolete. With universe seeding you can still have the same planets on two universes if you seed both universes the same. I hate the fact that you can find those green tents everywhere(from what i've seen in the streams), and this can be changed with universe seeding. What do you think?

the green tent thing is just because they are sticking to only revealing tier 1 of starbound (ie stone pickaxe, axe ect) and don't want to show any more of the game. The problem being, that most lvl 1 planets are mining planets, with lots of mines. And tents it won't be a consistent problem throughout the game, don't even worry bout it personally I never fancied such systems, felt like cheating if I tampered with it.
I was just pointing out the fact that those tents appear too often, but that is not the main idea. The main idea is that the player could choose how often certain planets and other stuff appear in the universe, and being able to set this from game start. Something like that, yes.
I think something like this would be cool and extremely helpful to large scale builders. It would finally allow me to create my Starbound scale Star Wars galaxy, complete with actually canonically placed planets.
I like the idea of being able to customize how your universe will be generated, more choice is always good in a game like starbound.
I really, really, really hated this in Don't Starve. The basic game should be fun to play without modifying it. If the player wants to tweak the game, they should get a mod and change it themselves. It isn't the developer's responsibility. What IS the devs' responsibility is making sure that the basic unmodified game is balanced and fun. I know I'm not going to change the minds of anyone who likes this idea, but I just don't like it. I'd prefer that the developers make a good game for me instead of having to figure out what the optimal experience is for myself, and if I want to change something be able to mod it. [/rant] EDIT: To be clear, I don't like any sort of optional features. I don't even like optional difficulty levels.
Indeed. I don't think this will take the fun out of the game, in a matter of fact this will put even more fun in it.
Anyone disagreeing with being able to tweak world/universe generation in any game like this is wrong. The end. This is not opinion
Galactic Civilizations 3? That screenshot looks like it's from GalCiv2 and I cannot find any information about a release of a third installment anywhere.
Yes indeed, difference is in taste. My bad. Sorry. Im gonna fix this right away Edit: Fixed it. Thank you. Same for me
Seems good because I hated having to keep making a new world in Terraria that has a large snow biome to live on If not then a great Mod idea
I don't think they can do this without compromising that each planets co-ordinates is that planets unique seed value which can be shared with friends and the community if you choose to do so.
Not sure where I stand on this, on one hand, yeah being able to tweak the universe for your personal preferences would be nice, but it ruins the whole "hey check out this sweet planet I found at X,Y,Z" that the devs want to be able to happen. Plug and play coordinates don't work so well when you include "generate a universe with these settings" in the process.
I like the idea, but as many have said, this would compromise the idea of plugging in coordinates and getting to the exact same planet. I made a suggestion a long time ago that made this an endgame tech. Where you could go to and eventually create new universes using black holes and extreme tech. This might be a lot of fun for exploration, too, one could explore entire new universes that might have very different laws than ours, like crazy different laws. Perhaps this universe has no light. Everything is plunged into an eternal complete darkness, your only illumination being that from your light. The new universe is one giant cave network. There is nowhere that isn't embedded in stone, and "down" is a fundamental direction in the universe. Perhaps this could be implemented like MystCraft, where you can go to various new universes and absorb properties from each of them, which you can then use to create a completely new universe that you find to be perfect. This would be really cool to have in a somewhat smaller canon form (post-release, obviously) but would enable some crazy modding.
