Sectors? or one open universe?

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by Caelorum, Dec 15, 2013.

?

Do you like the sector system?

  1. Yes, it works, and gives me a reason to progress

  2. No. I'd rather one expansive universe, with other reasons to want to progress

Not necessarily. I wouldn't be so active in these forums if I thought it was a lost cause.

I still kinda think ahving this game being 2d was a big mistake, totally killed all exploration aaaand... wait.. nah i don't think combat systems work in first person anyway, third person would probably just be weird in a 8-16bit game.
but you still have bows and guns :D and i think it would be okay in first person and would open up a whole new world of building, you could even build colloseums then.

srsly, the universe have billions of galaxies, they splitted the universe into groups of galaxies, not a galaxy into group of galaxies

What if there was one giant map and each starmap item added new, harder planets to it?

Still the problem is the enforced separation of the planet tiers, limiting player mobility and self-determination.

... this is why it was cool when terraria only had like this one limited map, big but not infinite.

I really dont want to see any artificial limits on progression. Only kind of limits I would like to see is attributes that you level up and pick which points go where.Like sword needs 25 strength to use.Or, this gun needs 30 agility to use.Want to build that robot?Need 40 intelligence.Attributes could also augment weapons and armor. The more strength points you have the more damage your broken sword does. That way everything doesnt become totally useless as you progress. This is the only limiting system I see that makes sense. Most everything else is artificial. I would like to see planets with hostile enviroments but not to block progress.

Keeping people from progressing to fast or difficult can rely on a few things. One is death penalty.Make them much more harsh. You lose items. There are a number of death penalties that can help guard the progression. Also loot should be guarded as well as ore. This will protect the progression system.

Or what about runescape type of leveling, you have to chop down wood to get bbetter at woodcutting.
