Sector Hubs for Multiplayer (Communal Home Planet)

Something I think starbound would really benefit from would be an easily identifiable location in each sector that could be used as a hub for multiplayer.
These hubs would appear as a different icon on the star map, and would greatly aid the roleplaying/ sense of community in the game.
This could be done in two ways:
    1. Allow the server host to flag a planet as a hub, in the same way as players can set their home planets. Once flagged, that planet would be identified on all players maps within the server. The benefits: Choose the planet biome of choice, ability to change designated hub. Drawbacks: Relies upon server host to access that sector to set hub, potential for accidental re-designation just like players accidentally reset their home planet and can no longer find it.
    2. Alternatively, each sector could have an abandoned deathstar like planet that was simply a planet made of metal blocks (bricks, not ore). This planet would be obvious when looking at the sector map, and would be a blank canvas for the players to build a city on. Monsters would not spawn on the planet (since it's artificial and has no indigenous life forms). Possibly quests could be triggered where the original owners might try to retake their hub and players would need to defend. The sector deathstar planet would have no treasure to discover, no resources, no caves or anything. It would just be a perfect metal sphere for the players to build on. Players could have a "teleport to sector hub" command from their ship for quick access to the location. The first hub, in the first sector would be a tiny thing, without too much space for construction. Each sector would double the size of the provided deathstar until at the end of the game you had a massive planet size structure to decorate.
I think this would be a great thing for the game, and easily added. The good thing about having each sector have a hub would be so that brand new players don't have immediate access to the high level craft tables (without specifically asking for it) and missing out on the natural progression of the game.

Thanks, I think it could add a lot to the sense of community in multiplayer.

Has there been any mention about game progress that might meet this goal?
