Basically, like secret friday updates in Minecraft, they were lots of fun to try to find out what it was.

They would tell the bug fixes, and things like that.
However, content, would be hidden. They would say that they added new content and give some hints.

    Discuss.

Sounds like a great idea, reminds me about DLCs aswell. I wouldn't mind paying for them as this game already only seeing the demos makes me want to throw money at them.

I think they should do secret updates, they can be really fun. I love going crazy about not knowing what it is . And watch everyone else go crazy. Then continue playing the game while lightly looking for new stuff, and have it spoiled by someone I'm playing with xP. I wouldn't really mind though.

It's highly unlikely that there will be DLC. Tiy said he really doesn't like DLC and micro-transactions.

A secret update with a nod to herobrine would be fantastic.

Hm, that's actually interesting. Would keep the fun of doing blind and speculative analysis videos if the developers gave us hints and told us to try and guess. Who knows.

I'm assuming you mean after release? It'd be fun, yeah, I always loved trying to figure things out in MC.

Sounds like a cool idea, although I don't see it lasting long since news travels fast :p

Hm. since every planet has different content due to procedural generation, wouldn't it be hard to detect anything that was added in an update?

You'd probably still be able to recognise some new body parts or weapons parts if they were different enough to the old ones though hopefully. Or new quests or items altogether would be quite obvious once you eventually encountered them :)

That is true, I hadn't thought about new quests. Yeah that would be noticeable. I am not sure how obviously "pieced" together the critters in Starbound are going to be, I hope that the transitions are smoothed and it doesn't look like they glued wings onto a poptop (for example). If they are smooth enough, it might be really hard to discern new pieces added in an update.

Haha yeah hopefully not. The few we've seen so far looked amazing so should be ok! I think they've put a lot of work into making the system seamless :) But for example with the deer, I doubt there will be that many actual different heads, and the variety will come from the combinations with other parts and the (hopefully) huge range of colours. So if a head with new horns appeared it would be quite obvious, but egs and bodies maybe not so much.

On a side note I just thought how good this system would be for zombies, as you could change out all their body parts with different level decomposed ones to have loads of different combinations :D

hm that is true...I actually hope that this will be a "mining/crafting/exploring" game that doesn't have me fighting the undead...I may be the only one, but I get a little tired of the same type of bad guy in all of my games.

Yeah not saying they should really be in it. Their engine would be awesome for an actual 2d zombie game though if you had to build and keep them at bay :D and then venture out to get supplies and rescue npcs and things. I feel a mod idea coming on hehe.

Everyone likes stumbling upon some new goodie, baddie, or unique items that may or may not be announced. Personally, I love rare or special items, or happening across something I didn't know was going to be in the game. Feels like Christmas... "oh, shinies!"

I, too, LOVE zombies, but also feel the industry/society is being a little too "invaded" by them. Screw zombies, I'd rather fight evil Banchee hippo-dragon-robots
