So I'm thinking each planet should have it's own seasonal rotation. Some planets would go through summer, fall, winter, and spring, while others may have fewer or more seasons. The seasons on different planets may change at different rates. Some planets' seasons would last longer than others. For example, Planet A's seasons might last a month each, while Planet B's seasons might last a week. Aside from changing the appearance of planets, there could also be seasonal events that only occur at certain times. These events could be as small as having new NPCs available, or as large as new bosses. For example, a frozen and cold planet could partially thaw during the summer, releasing a mammoth boss from an icy tomb. Thus, this boss would only be available during this planet's summer season. Additionally, the seasons could determine what weather is available at a given time, and its chance of happening. If you get tired of one season, just switch planets! Not all planets would be in the same season at the same time, so you could change at any given time. Or, if the planet was your home planet, you could just manually change the weather. Thoughts?
Thoughts? I think this is essential. I approve. Everything that gives content to the game and contributes to make it less tiring in the long run will always be welcomed!
I like it but could also live without it if it'd be a situation of too much on their plate. Planets seem to be fairly small and very themed, so an ice planet wouldn't have much difference I imagine between summer and winter.
Ten thousand yeses!!!! Please add this Devs!! I can't see this coming out on initial release (just because I'm a realist) but I REALLY hope it will be or at least a later update. That would require SO much work for the team and it'd also need some creative work too since nobody knows what a planets seasons would be like except for a earth planet haha. We know there will be tons of different planets so I hope they have the willpower and the creative juices to pull it off!!!
Seasons would be a really cool addition, right up there with the different levels of gravity, weather.. perhaps different atmospheres as well. I mean, an asteroid wouldn't have as much of an atmosphere as a large planet. Different seasons and how harsh they may be could affect the level and types of flora/fauna at every location.
Seasons would be great... on some planets. Others not as much. Not all planets have seasons. Mercury for example has no seasons, it's just hot when facing the sun then cold when facing away. Gameplay-wise, like Power-Mad said, if a planet was specifically themed then seasons might just be a distraction, or might not make sense at all. However, on Earth-like planets or planets that have an environment that could either be hot or cold, seasons would be an awesome change of scenery and maybe gameplay.
Exactly, the thing would be to apply seasons only to relevant planets. If a planet only has two seasons, apply only two, if it doesn't, do not. The interesting thing would be to have planets with seasons, but not all of them if it doesn't make sense.
Not all planets would have to have 4 seasons. Take Mercury, or a similar planet, like you said. Wouldn't it be interesting for it to be really hot sometimes and really cold at others? I imagine the enemies would change with the season, and so would the wildlife, assuming the planet has any.
Seasons would depend on the planet, its rotation and distance from its sun. But sure, it would be a nice touch, if some planets did have this, though not all.
First I do like the idea, seasons would add a lot visually not just mechanically, but wasn't this mentioned? I could be wrong here (Just dreamed it up) but I thought one of the Devs said something about adding seasons? Note: I looked and I could not find where I saw it. So maybe I am wrong on this. Either way this would be cool to see, as there is just so much you could do with it Edit: Found it.. It wasn't a Dev it was someone named Cam, and it was bunched in with a group of suggestions.. Here
Guess that's why I didn't find this suggestion anywhere. I'll just stick to this thread, since this idea is fleshed out.
Oh yea, it was just one of those I know I have seen this before kinda things heh.. I am glad I found something or else it prob would of driven me crazy all day heh.. But I think there is no real "Details" of it there, just a mention. So no doubt this is where it is more fleshed out.
neat idea but i think it would take from the quantity of planets they don't want you on a planet for to long so seasons to me would seam like a waste on most planets other then your home world of course.
I don't know bout this, One... It might be foreseeable to be on a planet for a long period of time (Mining, Capturing Pets, etc), but even if you are the type to fly from one system to another like some kind of Nomad sometimes there are things you do in the background, even if the person playing doesn't know bout it (Like the Sun going up and down when your underground and can't see it)
They mentioned a Weather machine somewhere, the devs, so if you can control the weather (just in your home planet, though), maybe you could also control seasons! Anyway, this would really add awesome detail! Also, when it snows, it should start filling up with snow and make it harder for your character to walk (unless you use a plow or a snow speeder... or a Tauntaun!). And you'd hear shuffling noise and such. (also, high grass should be in!) ~ockpii
I think it's a good idea, but a lot of work! You'd have to have seasons for every environment, and that would take a long time to prepare. Perhaps it would make a good expansion?
Well, considering the planets of our own solar system, Earth is one of the only ones with a really noticeable season-change, while planets like Mars tend to, at least from a distance look pretty much like the same dull rock it has been for quite a while now. Earths seasons are due to the slight axial tilt, but who is to say that this is a common thing, this could and should be a random variable as well. Some planets experience dramatic change in weather and seasons, while other less hostile planets have little or no seasons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Season http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habitable_zone
