This is a relatively common idea, but I wanted to put my own twist on it. So, first things first, this would work hand in hand with rediscovery of recopies for craft-able items. (I refuse to call it reverse engineering seeing as how engineering to make something efficient, to reverse engineer would be making something less efficient, i.e. the qwerty keyboard) So, in order to salvage/scavenge pieces of something, you must first know how to craft it. This way, if you want to upgrade gear, you can get a little material back from the old equipment. Also, if breaking mechanics are added to Techs, you may just want to scavenge/salvage materials rather than make repairs. This would be insane if you could just break something anywhere. You would have to take whatever you are breaking to your space station. Here, you could choose scavenge or salvage. Scavenge - If you select scavenge, you would be able to search for specific material, getting more of that material but destroying the item in the process. Salvage - If you select salvage, you get a lower amount of a general set of items used to craft that item, also destroying the item. As an example, take a lazer gun that was made using 5 Gold10 Gunpowder2 Flint15 Iron Salvaging may give you - 2 Gold 4 Gunpowder 1 Flint 6 Iron Scavenging for iron may give you - 1 Gold 2 Gunpowder 0 Flint 13 Iron Tell me what you think about this concept.
So...what you're saying is you can break down an item and take its parts? this has been discussed by the devs, but you make it seem really confusing. scavenge=get lotsa sh*t but destroy it in process salvage=get less sh*t destroying it in the process
i think what he's trying to say is either option A: get a few really good things or option B: get alot of okay/not so great things in other words quality/quantity
I think he meant that if you scavenge for iron from a gun, you get more iron but less of anything else, but if you salvage, then you get some of all the stuff. So say that this gun is 10 Iron, 5 Gold, 3 Stardust, 10 Gunpowder you scavenge for gold and you get 4 Gold, 2 Gunpowder, and 1 Iron. You salvage it and you get 2 Gold, 4 Iron, 5 Gunpowder, and 1 Stardust. You might want to put such an example in your first post. (It can be edited.)
Yes, this is pretty much what I meant. Quality would play a role in some cases, based on what you would get back. Yeah, this is a pretty good example. And thanks for the tip
No problem! and I think that there should be a machine to boost your gains. so that it is more along the lines of, this gun is 10 Iron, 5 Gold, 3 Stardust, 10 Gunpowder You scavenge for gold and you get 2 Gold. You salvage it and you get 1 Gold, 3 Iron, and 2 Gunpowder, You scavenge for gold and you get 4 Gold, 2 Gunpowder, and 1 Iron. You salvage it and you get 2 Gold, 4 Iron, 5 Gunpowder, and 1 Stardust.
Advanced level or station, whichever will it be, of scavenging / salvaging could also inform you how much of what you get by doing it.
scavenging is a good way for resources and money if the monster or player u killed has any great or bad resources its a great way to get supplies if ur building a home or a vehicel or finding food for u and ur mount
