    A planet really,really scary:unsure:
that can trigger a several number of events...

It will be a always dark planet
    with some jet black creatures
there's many things on this planet...
a tombstone with a old and rusty flashligh,an abandoned house...

these creatures will make no harm, just appear and dissapear when you point the flashlight to them...
some will try to run in your direction...and them dissapear...
some of them will smile at you...and them appear behind you and give a little stab(doing 10% of your hp of has damage)

on the underground while you're minning, some tunnels will appear with torches...like someone has already been here...

strange noises from caves in the ground,an very old abandoned house in a forest...

sometimes you see a red/dark smile on the trees, and when you point the flashlight to the trees again, the smile is gone...

in houses or even in caves, there will be disturbing things writen in walls
like:I Killed for you,( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°),my jimmies are really hustled,Tiy is kill

you enter on the abandoned house, you can listen to some footsteps, but there's no sign of anyone has been walking here for a long time

When it's raining with thunder, the thunder flash will make a silhouette of an old man appear on windows

if you're a little far from your house(and you can still see it),will appear a jet black creature walking inside, and poking in your stuff(it will try to open the chest but failing miserably)
    download.png
Sprites of the jet black creatures(i used MS-Paint to make them, don't hurt me)
i decided to use humanoid sprites ,but if anyone have a slimes sprite i would be glad if you post on this thread

The idea it's the planet will be unique and will be a ??? or 666 level planet
far deep while you're minning you'll hear some laughs or even screams

also post more ideas,i'll update this thread with some of ideas that i really liked

  2. Always Night Planets. Looks Nice!

It's not 100% related to the topic but it Made me think some planets very far away from a Star could be Always Dark! It would be interesting ^^

There would have to be danger. Creatures not only disappearing but sometimes, actually being there long enough to hurt player character. Not only constructions and animations but items and logs that may be disturbing. Hell, I'd crank that up to eleven, make the planet part of some quest (scout the area, find wherebouts of earlier expedition) and then strand players on it with no possibility for new people come in or get back upon reaching particular point of this quest (though that would require some basic supplies/facilities to be available on site - could be tied with the expedition thing) till the quest is finished..

All of this because of simple reason - the planet won't be scary, at all, if one will be able to leave anytime or will know that whatever's there - it's just for decoration and hardly a danger. I understand that real horror may hardly befit rather wacky mood of Starbound, but I'd rather have go at it, I am sure there are many who would want to visit such world.

Ohhh, I love this Idea! And like Witness said, part of the quest is getting straight up stranded on that dark planet until you are able to investigate what happened to the previous expedition crew. It would give it a mystery solving thriller feel. I like the idea of a planet full of angry ghosts and creepy feels to it. Space can be a scary dark place, without your trusty flashlight.
I really like the headstone idea with the rusty flashlight. A+ on that one.
The quest could start you off somewhere to the west of an expedition facility in the forest. Of course the quest would kind of need to lead you in the right direction, kind of like getting messages in Terraria *You see a building in the distance* *It seems to be pitch black inside* *a Chill runs down your spine* Things like that to lead you ahead and at the same time, make you feel uneasy or scared. The SFX would have to match such a thing perfectly.

Sanity meters? The more you stay, the more insane you are driven? A simple pill can lower it. Pick it up at your local non-profit pharmacy!

    Sounds like
Amnesia: The Dark Descent anyway....sounds cool, but would be hard to add status bar on the UI...But hey! we can make mods right?

Not sure about that, in practice it would basically work like a time limit on staying around - a thing I'd not be overly fond of.

    Oh,Now i Get it...
A time limit that you stay on the shadows/darkness

    Love the idea!

I think danger could be present in the form of trees falling down on you and such. The environment seems to be against you, but it's not alive, it's the mysterious spirits that play with you. There should at some point be some danger of getting completely destroyed, and escape being the only way to survive; run and hide, so you can press on depper into the darkness. Maybe something undescribeable like the Amnesia monster that finds you and chases you temporarily.

And you could be stranded in the way of some cosmic storm making espace to your ship impossible, so you have to set up a little forward base on the planet. Resources for this can be found there, maybe there already is some sort of outpost build, that you can merely claim and restore. It won't serve much purpose other than temporary shelter if you get hurt or scared, and some simple crafting, because you're not meant to stay there, you're meant to face the darkness. Who knows what's to be found in the deepest recesses of this eerie planet.

And ghost children! Kids are always scary :V

Please no arbitary time limits. A time limit doesn't make something scary. It makes something annoying in an exploration game.

Also, if it's only a limit you can stay in the darkness, why bother? everyone will most likely bring plenty of lights.

I'm all for scary planets, however. Variation is good.

    OOC: Hi me!

I agree with this guy up there. Time limits are very, very annoying, even if it's a challenge.

Hmm, This planet should just appear on your starchart mysteriously, in a place that you've already explored. As you explore it, It at first just tries to jump-scare you, and mess with you. But as you continue to explore and you decode its mysteries, and get used to the harmless or mostly harmless scares, The planet becomes more malevolent and aggressive, suddenly it starts dealing damage just as you thought it was getting boring. As you approach the "heart " of the planet, it will try everything in its power to stop you, the creatures are stubborn and have huge armor penetration, and you can't even shoot them. Making you feel so helpless even in end-game armor.
Also, as the planet reveals its tricks, your ship strands you there. Adding to the helpless feeling. It might just vanish off the map.
As you approach the core, your light doesn't travel very far at all, and walls will change behind you, you can't even trust your memory.

And the core would be a really big corrupted monster, and when it's defeated, the planet would change to a very happier and safer planet

Cliche, I know, but would be awesome :D

This would make a nice mod, but I feel that it would detract from the experience for me :/

It just seems to be essentially "Disney's haunted mansion" in Starbound form
