Scanning for 3d Printing should be free. Paying to log items is a completionists nightmare.

TL;DR version - You already pay a substantial fee to print items, and lose the item when you scan it. Paying to scan is unnecessary and cumbersome. Those who like to collect and log items can't do so easily in early to mid game(perhaps even late game). Please significantly reduce the fee, preferably to 0.

    Long version:
I'm the type of person that likes to have things accessible to me, in case I want to use them in a project later on, like building a temple, or graveyard, or whatever may be in mind at the time. So whether or not I think I'm going to use them, I want to have them tucked away for later. The 3D scanner/printer was an awesome idea for people like me, as well as people that like to just build up a collection of all the items in the game and have them on a item log. This is a simple way to log the items we've collected, and then later reprint if we find the need. However in it's current form, it doesn't quite work like I feel it should.

I've been trying to keep or 3d scan the unique items I've come across, and my 'keep in chests until I can afford it' pile just keeps getting larger, and my money is staying way too low. The cost of logging is way too high, which doesn't make much sense to me.

First of all, when we log an item, we're already losing that item. That's a reasonable cost of scanning right there. Then if we want to reprint the items, the fee is fairly substantial, and having a fee of worth keeps the process balanced. So why do we also have to pay, just to build up our log in the first place? If you must charge a fee, it should be something lower... I would say around 50 pixels, but I say let it be free, that's my opinion on the matter.

I have a lot of other things I'd like to talk about, but this is something I wanted to address immediately so it could hopefully be implemented sooner rather than later. I'm enjoying the game, and very much appreciate the work that's gone into it. Keep up the good work!

I agree with what this guy said almost to the letter. Hopefully this is a change we will see soon? Please?

AGREE. We are losing the item, and then paying a ton to recraft it. why pay to learn in the first place?

Agreed. I've already spent around 30k pixels just on scanning things, and I haven't even left the Alpha sector yet.

One could argue that it makes sense because pixels are the fuel to run the printer, but scanning costs are ridiculously high. At the moment I'm in the process of scanning everything I've stockpiled and I just have to keep collecting money to do so, it's probably much worse when you actually need the items. It's also rather annoying that blocks can't be scanned, since I haven't found a way to craft things like glitch castle blocks and they take ages to mine.

Can't agree more, i hate to have a bunch of chest for things stored that i will never use, 3D printer was an awesome way to fix this, but can't use basically since everything is so expensive.

I just have created another suggestion regarding 3D printer (something else, i find this topic searching something i was going to suggest) and i think you guys will like to see another improvement for the 3D printer, maybe.

Agreed. Destruction of the scanned item is a worthy cost. This goes along with pixels' purpose - currency and material for 3D printing. Since you are not trading with that printer (huh?) and not printing anything why does it require pixels? Weird, I'd say.
Yet, I can think of a reason. To print a memory block to store blueprint data. But I still agree, as those can be buffered, some pixels extracted out of item itself and used for building a memory block to be written, buffer then cleaned. I'm getting too technical

The support is appreciated, really hoping to see this change implemented, and sooner rather than later. :p

I am not sure how I feel. On one side I hate the cost being so high and printing the thing being so expensive as well... I mean most of these are just cosmetic, nothing special. Even when they are special they are just replacing something else...

I have not played long or far though, maybe there are other things worth scanning or printing that are important, but unless that is the case why does it cost anything? Why can't it just run on fuel, and the fuel you feed it is ANYTHING. Matter manipulator and such. Or maybe you feed it ore as fuel? I dunno. Ideas.

The point for the 3D scanner is to not have stockpiles of furniture you MIGHT use but not now because you haven't got the whole set or doesn't fit in with the rest. I agree with OP, before wipe I had chests filled with random stuff that I couldn't fit in with the theme of my base so they just sat there picking up dust, because the 3D printer eats my shit and charges money for it....

I would love if the scanning cost was 0. You already have to pay a ton to get the item printed anyhow.

I'm also one of those people who scan absolutely everything I get my hands on.

I would suggest a constant scan cost fee, 50 for every item.

I agree, I just don't use the 3D printer at this point, its economical and forcs me to more utilitarian bases

    Gubudugu Astral Cartographer

could be constant depending on it's usefullness, like 25 for simple furniture, 50 for containers and stations (cooking tables, barrel, fireplaces), and 100 for traps (barbed wire, electric wire, spinning blades, etc).
I'm not sure that's a good idea, but everything still needs to be cheaper.

Agreed.I like to collect every new piece of furniture i come ago, and im obsessed with stealing lamps. I wish i could go back to the ship and safely "store" them in my printer for the foreseeable future, without having to worry about killing everything in the surface for 40 minutes or so just so i can afford to scan my ill-gotten luminous treasures.
