Well, be careful then. This is bad but there are scams like it all over youtube and the net. It is pretty prevalent. Never ever assume you'll ever get anything for free or someone offering an early download is being honest. Only trust the people actually making the product, and always be a little cautious since people can fake ways like email to make it seem they are the developers.

As the saying goes, if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is.

There are at least like ten, if not more, for every game, whether it be to get the game legally or not, or just to get some patch.

In other words, this is an extremely old practice.

Well you didn't need to make an all-caps post about something that anyone with half a brain can distinguish, and then go on to "Selflessly defend the innocent internet users who cannot see for themselves" about an obvious virus.

There's not problem with it per se, but its a bit pointless. I don't think anyone on these forums are foolish enough to fall for that.

People fall prey to these scams all the time, that is why they are so prevalent. I think the OP's intentions were noble but his method of communicating them may have left much to be desired. You can't keep up with the scammers either, shut one down and 20 more pop up in their place. It is just the nature of the internet.

My advice, save your energy and use it for something else. Educate yourself on how to spot a scam. And for the love, don't post in all caps.

Good point. There's no way to stop scammers so easily. We just need to make sure as many people as possible know how to spot a scam. Then they can pass the advice on to other people.

There's no use just sitting there, watching another person get scammed, then feeling all superior. That doesn't help anybody.

I don't really care about the scammer himself because these things are fairly common, what really concerns me is his web design skills. I mean damn, that is one of the worst websites I've ever seen

The only way to educate people about scams is to shove it through their thick head to have a simple logical line of reasoning for:

HEY, I WONDER WHAT THEY ARE GETTING OUT OF THIS AND IS IT TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? Scammers would be out of business if people would use their damn heads every once in a while. OMG IM THE MILLIONTH WINNER, AND THIS SITE SAYS ITS GOING TO GIVE ME A MILLION DOLLARS AS A REWARD!!!

First off, why would a site give you a million dollars just for visiting it? That is asinine, especially considering the site itself isn't messaging you but rather an advert on the site is delivering the message in a generic form. Plus, what would it say otherwise to other people? Sorry you didn't win? You never see that.

Secondly, why in the hell would it give you a million dollars? If people could win a million dollars that easily, why aren't there whole companies dedicated to clicking on websites to get the rewards?

Again, it's all about using an ounce of logic. Sure, we were all stupid at some point like that, but the only way to learn is by falling for them in most people's cases. Hell, even a lot of adults fall for it. It's very silly.

Sorry, but when it comes to scams like this, the people that get scammed deserve it. If they're too stupid to find out that Starbound isn't even out yet, or to just go use piratebay or something, then yeah, they kind of deserve it. And yeah, people are right when they say you can't stop it. This is crap from like the primeval age of the internet, and it's always going to be around.

And that's exactly why society is in the state it's in. We don't educate people when they do something stupid (or bad, for that matter), apparently we'd just rather get some sick joy out of the result instead.

The funniest part about that is that people actually fall for those. I've NEVER understood that. How can you be that dumb? I don't get it.

Yeah, most people just think 'welp, that's not my problem.' It really isn't, though, and I do it too, a lot. I remember back when I was in high school and I would have kids in my class complaining about writing two hundred words or whatever. It was pretty funny, and I laughed at how lazy/stupid they were. It wasn't my job to help them, and unless they went out of their way, I didn't. The same thing applies here and now.
