    This is amazing!

The only thing I would suggest is please try to let us edit colors of things like the shoulder/foot pieces on armor like the Raven's Breast/claws! It's the only thing preventing me from creating my perfect character armor.

Thank you for making such an amazing tool!

    Hello Phaze,

I would like to inform you, yet you may already know this, that your website does not seem to function correctly on Windows 7 when using Firefox as a browser. When using Firefox, the download came out with a .html file extension, and my character did not appear in the character selection menu when I copied the contents of the .html file in an empty .player file stripped directly from my Starbound "player" folder.

After trying in vain about 5 times to get a .player file (I restarted my computer twice), I tried using IE 7 as my web browser, and your website download worked flawlessly.

Great work! A tool like this is nearly needed with the poor character customization the base game of Starbound offers. I may take the liberty to look at your src and add Firefox compatibility in the near future.

Just thought an issue like this should be brought to your attention, and thank you for all your hard work!

Worked fine for me on Windows 7 with Firefox. but if you read what he said up above, you'll notice that in the future it'll be a non-issue because of the offline version replacing the online version.

SBSE should work on any modern browser. Some plugins you might have may interfere with the website, but as Grupletruge said once the app is released it wont even matter.

I've just released an update to the website version. It's possibly the last update, but it's also kind of important. Here's what's changed:

    - Wrote in a special case for Avians to separate their strange single body directive into 3 directives for feet, belly, and the rest. This only affects basic mode, but it should prevent earlier complaints. The belly still has a weird contrast problem, so it might be best to avoid changing it.
    - Advanced mode now has fully working buttons to add a new color change option to the existing directive. This will let you easily change any color on whatever you're changing, but as it's advanced mode you'll need to know the hex code for what you want to change. You can use Paint or Photoshop or any editing software for this.

I made another small update to the web version to improve rendering speed of the character preview. This is based off some code I wrote for the desktop version. Speaking of which, the character rendering on the desktop version is progressing nicely. Full support for directives, color indexes, and default colors has been implemented. Due to a bug with Chucklefish's SHA256 hashing, files that contain 55 characters in the assets pak file aren't read correctly. This is a problem because when rendering players there's a few armors that end up being 55 characters long and thus wont load at all. I've gotten around this somewhat by simply attempting to download unreadable files from SBSE's website. This works okay for the time being. It depends on you having an internet connection though and the point of moving to the desktop was to be able to run it offline without any dependencies, I'd rather no rely on it. I've talked to Omni from Chucklefish who said that the bug has been fixed on their end already and will be fixed in the next update, so this problem is only temporary at least. It'll have to do for now.

Anyway I thought I'd just post this screenshot of the development so far to illustrate where I'm at with player rendering (most of these are just quickly generated test players, aside from Kentoss):

    Looks pretty cool !
Just a question. Will it reads only the packed assets, or will it be able to read modded species and items too ?

It reads both packed assets and both packed and unpacked mods as long as the mods are set up correctly.

This is GREAT Phaze. Good job. It doesn't seem to work for me tho.. I have a Hylotl which I'm trying to look a bit nicer.
But when i save the file it saves it as yadayada.player.html

I put it in my player folder and my character is gone. Im running mac as well.
Any ideas why it makes it a html file?

Are you using the 'save' button on the website or are you using ⌘+s?

Some browsers might interpret the content type wrong and download the file as HTML. It shouldn't happen, but if it does you should be able to just remove the .html extension so it's just yadayada.player

I was thinking of making one, but because I'm working on the desktop version I think I'm going to hold off to stay relevant. I'll likely make some kind of video guide for the advanced mode in the desktop version shortly after it's release.

A guide for what exactly? Dropping in a file and changing colors?

    uhh

This turned my hardcore hylotl character into a normal one and they have really weird facial expressions

is that supposed to happen or would you happen to know of a way to fix this?
    uhh

I seem to be having trouble saving my character edits when i click save the screen darkens and that's it. I've left it going like that for several minutes and nothing happens. I managed to edit successfully before the Furious Koala update though
