The website is working again for any one who hasn't noticed. At least people who haven't updated to glad giraffe can use it. :p

...What's with all drama and over reactions to this? It's just a change in ownership..not the end of the world, the program will still work as intended. I highly doubt Kazyyk is the comically mustache-twirling villain you all are making him out to be,

Well uh all that seemed kinda crazy and out there, seeing as how most of the people here just know you won't be able to provide the quality Phaze has. But whatever, sure do the whole ...speech thing.
Only thing I care about discussing is

If it's about knowledge and providing to the community, open source it.

  4. Mmm, yes, and my next SBSE release will include 100% more eeeeviiilll, muahahaha.

*Twirls his abnormally long and certified evil moustache*

    Also compatibility fixes.

...That's not really how it looks though, there is a lot of bad blood between narks, you and Kazyyk. You both pop up in threads he posts in just to speak negatively about him,

You aren't even giving him a chance to do anything with SBSE. You aren't even asking him for the source code, you are demanding it, despite the wishes of the original creator who purposefully passed it on to Kazyyk,

sorry, but this is a repeat of the whole starrybound incident

turns out if you wrong people, they actually go and tell everyone they can about it, who would have guessed

it just seems...kind of silly at this point? Most people have moved by now, the things that people bring up are far from recent events, and more often than not both parties were at fault. It's a grudge match, and no one can ever let anything go and move on.

can we just move from calling the new owner a "hacking scamming evil villian with a huge moustache" and talk about the actual SBSE now?

Is it somehow possible to create a character for an earlier version of starbound, so that it works with sbse? I've been using starcheat to recolor things, and it's proving to be incredibly difficult when some items have transparent hex values.

I'll agree with this. I regret getting into this conversation, and I realize that I could have probably acted better.

I apologize to both Phaze and Kazyyk, as I now realized that I've assumed some things about them that probably aren't true.

On the topic of the program itself, will SBSE remain with its current features, or are new ones planned to be added in the near to distant future?

  11. If you have an old version of Starbound sitting around, you may be able to do that. I'll try to get SBSE updated as soon as I can though so it will work with the current update.
My current focus is to fix the current features and make them compatible with Glad Giraffe before thinking about adding any new features. I'll still take suggestions and keep them in a list, though.

Phew that was a bit of a mess. Okay I'll just clarify points again, seeing as how most of this time I've only really been trying to focus on the importance of open sourcing :p But ya know, whatever.

    1) Not going to like, go on some spiel as to why so many people distrust and dislike Kaz. Theres a lot too it. It's a long long story, and probably won't mean anything to anyone because he can just say "Oh they're lying!". So hey, by all means, ignore us. It's cool. We just know we have to atleast give people some warning. It's not good to just let someone get away with bad crap, people at least deserve to be given the slightest heads up. I'll leave it at that, I don't want to say anymore out of fear of being accused of being a filthy spiteful person driven by hate, because that's really not the case. Kaz used to be a really good friend.

    2) Not really demanding, more like aggressively suggesting :p. Open source IS (this is not opinion), the absolute best course of action to ensure SBSE's survival and growth. The only thing that open sourcing would ruin is the auto update features (which, let's be frank, isn't that big a deal. Phaze it was really awesome and all, but SBSE wasn't updated ALL that much, usually only when starbound had been updated and broke everything. BUT that problem would be even more quickly resolved via open sourcing, since more people would actively be trying to repair it.

Kaz has even said just a few posts ago:
He's not planning to fix it until maybe the end of January. Sure, I understand that people have lives and can be busy and I really don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to "FIX IT NOW!!!".

But what's the point? If Kaz is both

    A ) Not the author
B ) Unable to repair it in a reasonable time

What good does it to to keep the project isolated.

Everyone is free to assume everything I say is solely driven by a distrust for Kaz, but that is far FAR from the case. It's just unfortunate that a lot of us knowing Kaz to be unreliable is overlapping with this whole thing.
I'm not going to talk about that anymore though, because as many people have mentioned -- the point is made, and it's a waste of time. I really just want to talk about SBSE's future.
I really just want the best for SBSE, because it's something we all love the shit out of.

SBSE is love, SBSE is life

I'm not going to mention the argument anymore, and instead bring up something extremely important about SBSE that you guys should know.

A friend taught me that if your character is naked in the newest version of SB, SBSE will work and you can recolour them. Clothes don't work, but If you wanna make a uniquely colored character and have their outfit be made of vanilla clothes, now you can.

A handy mod indeed. Could never find a proper color scheme for me and my array of characters without it, Phaze it's a shame to see you step down but we deeply respect your reasons, for this was one of our more favorite 3rd party software for Starbound, as for Kazyyk my knowledge of you is a blank slate and I for one wish to keep it that way, instead we're less interested in what you've done and more in what you do. With this in mind we wish you the best on the weight you have taken upon your shoulders. =)

  16. I don't yet have access to the source code, in case anyone was wondering.
Phaze is working on getting it to me soon, he's a busy guy.

Knowing how ambitious you are, and dedicated to your work you seem to be. I trust you'll do good work with my old favourite Starbound tool. While I don't frequent the game, or servers anymore. I am glad that SBSE isn't dead yet. Good luck Kazyyk

Well this thread has a small amount of madness within it, but I must say I'm glad this project isn't dead, normally I go out of my way to avoid social interaction but this has to be said, no matter the author, no matter the deadline, just having a program that allows me to edit the colors of my character is insurmountable in the amount of joy it brings, something so small yet it makes a vast impact. I wish everyone well on their future projects, no matter what it may be.
