Thanks for making this program in the first place, it's been really helpful.
It's good to hear that the program will continue to be developed, even if it's by another user.

Lol, OK, let's run a closed source program from the guy who openly conspires with his staff to attack other servers

Well shit. Guess we can't use SBSE anymore. Antares ads are going to be in SBSE, I'm calling it now.

Guess all we can do now is wait for a new coloring mod...

  5. There won't be any ads of any sort in SBSE, ever. It is an entirely separate project from Antares. I intend to keep it essentially the same way it is now and just keep it working as Starbound updates. I may add features as they become possible, but the priority is to get it fully functional again first.

I truly appreciate @Phaze's hard work and trust in me to continue SBSE.

If anyone has any questions, I'll check back here at least once per day to respond.

Yep. Antares has a pretty shitty rep. I guess this is the end of SBSE.

Phaze, thank you for all the hard work! Sbse has helped me a lot with making unique characters.

Yeh, like everyone else said ..

Thanks for all the work Phaze :) SBSE was the greatest tool in the history of forever, it added SO MUCH potential to starbound character creation, and was basically a roleplayers best friend. I'll really miss it, and miss your commitment :(

    Best of luck dude!

I am genuinely disappointed to such the development go over to someone like that, I feel like this will never retain any progress as it did in the past, and will have no part in downloading any new installments for this program in the future. I do not recommend anyone downloading this if/when it updates.

I'm very aware that Antares has a pretty bad reputation, but I believe Phaze handed the program to Kayyzk because Phaze was part of their community, I believe.

And also, in what ways do you think SBSE will be "ruined"?

Seeing how bad of a rep it has, the first thing that makes me worry Is how there might be advertisements in SBSE, like what people have said. And if Antares has attacked other servers, I don't think it would be wise to trust a program made by them. Also, my biggest worry is that SBSE will turn into some kind of exclusive thing, where you have to sign up for Antares to be able to download it on their site.

I'm guessing that there won't be advertisements in SBSE seeing as how Kayyzk has said there will be none. His image is already bad enough, and I don't think he's going to go against his word and ruin it further. Hopefully he realizes that.

Secondly, if what you say about them attacking servers is true, then it's probably a good idea not to trust it, like you said.

And thirdly, I think that is the most likely scenario to happen. The only thing I see wrong with this logic is that the other Antares-specific mod (the Antares item lack thingy) is available to the public on these forums. But hey, that's just a mod while this is a program, so you could be right.

With all that being said, I'll be expecting the future of this program to not go by very smoothly.

  14. So, I'd like to address some concerns I've read here.
    • SBSE will always be publicly available and won't become an Antares exclusive. They're completely separate projects and there will be no association whatsoever between the two.
    • I'm not going to put anything malicious in SBSE. I literally have no reason to do that as a developer, it would only hurt my career and credibility.
As a side note, SBSE is a huge responsibility for me to maintain, and while I'd love to get it up to speed ASAP, I'm super busy myself with work and I can't promise an update anytime soon. Maybe towards the end of January.

Then as the new owner you should release it open source, as that has always been to the benefit of the modding community.

Alright then. I hope you keep your word. And good luck developing it. Also, like Symphony mentioned, making it open source has a ton of potential benefits, and I hope you do that. But you have the right not to as the new owner, of course.

All the best. I hope the future of SBSE will be a good one.

Let me just say that I have no stake in or knowledge of any disputes going on in the Starbound server administration world. My decision is not about favouritism or compensation. I have never made a single dollar from SBSE despite a few offers for donations, and I wasn't really a part of the Antares community aside from maintaining the SBSE thread I made there in the project's infancy when I was just excited someone other than myself was talking about SBSE. Check my post history on that site if you'd like. My decision to hand my project off to Kazyyk is based on my own developed relationship chatting with him over the last year or two as a neutral party. He is also the only person to ever contact me directly and offer support in multiple ways for SBSE. Through that experience I discovered what benefits he could provide for SBSE, and it is for this reason alone that I trust he will do right by SBSE. I don't know any other developers in this community well enough to feel comfortable handing out SBSE's source and update server code to, and at this point I don't have time. Additionally SBSE would need to have some parts of it stripped out or modified in order to play well as an open source project, which could still happen but it wasn't part of my original design goals and is largely the reason I have avoided open sourcing it. SBSE has always been a pet project I did for fun, I do not wish to get involved in the affairs of the open source community or the current SB community. Please respect that position. I accept the risks involved with handing over this project to someone else, and it would be shitty if something bad happened to SBSE because of it, but I genuinely do not believe that will happen. I regret that some may disagree with my decision, but such is the world of modding. Thank you for the support regardless, I'm happy so many of you found value in SBSE.

    Nah, Phaze, don't worry yourself.

You did so much work for all of us, and provided us with the best character creation tool ever. We appreciate everything you did, and I respect you.
There really isn't any way for you to have known about Kaz, and it's the thought that counts. The thought of wanting to make sure SBSE carried on, and going through the extra work to transfer it to another hopeful successor.

I understand why you wouldn't have wanted to open source it before, but now --
Well, seeing as how you're transferring it to someone who doesn't fully understand your work anyway. It wouldn't hurt at all to just release the source code to us all.

If you did that, SBSE could become something even bigger than you imagined with the combined minds of everyone interested. Kaz could even still hold onto the site and 'official' ownership, with the responsibility of providing the most up to date and stable version available.

Even if he didn't, it would still be a far better choice to open source it than transfer it. That's just my two cents as a fellow developer.
Regardless of your decision, thank you for everything :)

  20. This thread shouldn't be about me, or what anyone thinks I've done, but I feel I must say something now.

I've made some tough calls over these last two years as administrator, and for the most part of them I sought to be noble.

I wasn't originally going to address these attacks on me, and my integrity, but I can see now that they won't ever stop. It's been over a year of spite and bitterness from various people I've punished for one reason of another, people banned from Antares because they acted out or caused trouble.

When you're a server owner, no, when you're in any authorative position -- you won't be able to please everyone. You will eventually create people who hate you, and if you're lucky, they'll hate you silently.

Not in my case, I'm afraid. I feel that I've never acted unjustly without apology. Am I without mistakes? No, of course not, no-one is. However, I've admitted and accepted my mistakes, done my best to do right by people who do right by my community.

Sadly, I'm forced to address this slander (and that's what it is) because those of you who don't really know me, I'm afraid you'll assume it's true. There are people out there, in this thread even, who think I'm some sort of monster. That I'm all about power, or greed.

That's not who I am. I've never cared about dominance, and the only money I ever wanted was just enough so that I could live within my means to treat Antares as my job -- but that never happened, and never will. I've known that for awhile now.

Now I just do it because I have an obligation to my community to do it. I won't destroy what I've created, at the worst, it will have it's time or migrate elsewhere, or the torch will be passed if it needs to be. I'll know when that time comes.

Antares was made because I wanted to provide something excellent. I thought that people would love a roleplay server, and they do, but I didn't realize that over the next two years I would drown in petty politics and have people set out to ruin my name.

People out there are going to say nasty things about me, and claim I've done wrong by them.

I ask that you get to really know me first before assuming you know me.

I will do my best to take care of SBSE. I will continue Phaze's legacy by keeping it the way it is, for the most part, barring new features or bug fixes. SBSE is not a labor of power, or an effort of deceit, it's a work for knowledge, and to provide something excellent to the SB community.
