Hey guys sorry for my absence from the SB community. I am not in a position right now to keep SBSE updated since my free time is limited. Right now I'm deliberating over the future of SBSE as I don't believe I will have the time necessary to update it any time soon, but I understand it's an important tool for some and would like for it to be updated for those that would use it. There is a potential successor interested in continuing the project, if that happens I will be sure to update here first. I am also considering just open sourcing the project for anyone to fork it. Otherwise I cannot afford to work on it while I have people who depend on my income, I have to focus on paid work to get by. I hope this is understandable.

Aww, that's a shame.IMO, You should open the source and let people tweak with it and make their own version of it.

just the fact that you let us know this makes it worthwhile - thank you for all of your hard work, phaze ^^ hope to be able to see you around soon - i kind of left the SB community for a while too for the lack of updates and disinterest in continuing testing nightly releases... but every time it updates, i'm back again xD

    thinking of doing nightlies again...

I thoroughly ADORE this program and all the work you have put into it.
I tried to use it a couple times and noticed I cannot edit my Hylotl character.
I really hope that you open it up to the public for us to use if you do not wish to continue working with it. I'm sure many people rely on this for more customization (I love the separate Top and Bottom stance option) and it appears to be the ONLY program out there that does this.

Great Job on this program, I'm looking forward to where it goes from here.

is there a way to change actual facial features like, for example, the novakid brand? or is it just for changing color?

The problem seems to be that when new names were added for some races, it made them indistinguishable by the program SBSE, therefore leading them to be not able to be edited.

I am working on another long overdue update to bring SBSE at least up to speed with the latest stable release. I have enough free time that I am choosing to spend on this, so I will also be able to look at any existing bugs that don't have to do with the new update if time permits.

Before I push an official update, I need some help from regular players. I need to test the update with the latest version of Starbound, which is better done by people who have established characters. I have put an experimental version of SBSE 0.10.0 up for Windows users at the link below. If you have time, please download it and let me know if you run in to any problems.

Download SBSE 0.10.0 (experimental) - Windows

    Current Changelog:

    - Updated to support latest stable release (Spirited Giraffe (May 8th 2015))
    - Fix: Support male/female name generators
    - Fix: Automated update downloading works again
    - Fix: SBSE now prefers the new sbboot.config over the old bootstrap.config in case both exist
    - Fix: Edit menu on OS X has returned
    - Fix: ensure correct rarity names
    - Fix: remove empty directive arrays (prevent crashing)
    - Fix: ensure directives are lowercase

yay! i'm downloading it as i say this xD will report back with any bugs i find ^^ (if i do)

edit: so far, the only 'bug' i found is that it's trying to update itself to a version i know doesn't work... 0.10.0 (experimental) is apparently 'older' than 0.9.4 xD

edit2: second time i ran it, it couldn't find the starbound folder location...?
edit2b: setting the direct folder doesn't do anything. it just reopens the folder dialog
-- is it possible to open the other dialog type that actually allows you to paste the location / shows you the contents of the folders? it's a lot of work to find the folder lol

Ah yeah, the latest version according to my web server is 0.9.4 so the experimental one is being told that it's out of date. It can be safely ignored. Did it work fine the first time you ran it? That's really weird, it shouldn't just forget the location like that. If you don't mind my asking, how is your Starbound set up? Thanks for the feedback!

I added proper support for name generation now instead of bullshitting it. This follows what I can glean from their spec as closely as I can. I've implemented my own version of Markov Chain name generation to fill it out. It's not 100% exactly the same as Chucklefish's implementation, mine doesn't force a postfix to the chain so it's a little more varied.

Windows users can download the newest experimental version here. If anyone has the time, please give it a shot with as many mods as you can, I'd like to make sure support for them is there to avoid future problems.

yes, it worked perfectly fine the first time.. but not the second or third

how do you mean 'set up'? like, through steam or something?
    i have it through steam
and i have about 15 mods on it, some of which were made by me (the skin mod i made worked perfectly on the time i did test it btw)

Yeah that's what I meant. Is it just a normal Steam install through your C: drive on Windows? Is it a clean install or have you upgraded it through the years? I actually cannot think of why it would just forget where the root folder is like that due to the way it looks for it, so I'm trying to recreate the issue in order to troubleshoot

  16. eksynn

    eksynn Giant Laser Beams

it's on my B drive instead of C and yes it's a full clean install - i kept the habit of deleting my older installs since back when i still played nightly builds
PS: i'll try reinstalling it i suppose.. will report back later tonight or tomorrow >.<

  17. Phaze

    Phaze Pangalactic Porcupine

Oh you shouldn't have to reinstall it, I want to make sure SBSE works without having to jump through hoops. I'll install my own copy to my other hard drive to see if I can recreate the problem

EDIT: I honestly can't recreate it, I'm not sure why that would happen since it's coded in a specific way to prevent that. You are using Windows I'm assuming, right?
