Don't be a dummy like me and plant your only wheat on your starting planet, then progress to Gamma.... then accidentally click "set home" on the Gamma planet.... and lose your ability to produce wheat since you can no longer find that starting planet.

Oh well, we live and learn :)

You could always write down the planets you find interesting.

I also found some wheat seeds in a chest in my current playthrough, so you're not totally SOL, just have to be lucky now.

Take a look in the universe folder (\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\universe) and you can find your home planet. There you will find files with names like this (alpha_-95258479_-54264555_-20007780_5_8.world) First two digit parts in the File name are the coordinates.

Well I've been eating cooked steaks for my whole starbound life, so I'm not sure its worth the time to go back. I went to about 7 or 8 alpha planets, and I can't remember the name of the original planet... so it would be incredibly hard to find.

Assuming you can make it - your starting food list is dictated by race.

Apex get by far the best, having access to banana bread (god level regen/speed buff) right out the gate with their starting seeds. Avian's get it worst, having no recipes at all that use their starting seeds asides from bread/wheat. Avian's get carrot bread as a starter recipe, but obtaining carrots is a different story

Well I'm either going to have to find a sustainable source of food soon or starve.... The meat from sword kills has all of a sudden dried up and you really can't kill anything in Delta with a steel hunting bow...
So I'll have to jump back to Alpha to farm animals for meat, or hope I find some seeds soon to start farming again. I think I saw a seed guide so I'll have a look at that, although wheat was not listed except for your starting seeds. I tried using the coordinates to go back to Alpha planets, however it only gives you a general idea of the area, not the specific planet and I can't seem to find that starting world.

Only the last hit has to be by the bow or hunting knife

You can try to figure it out with the timestamp on the planet file. If you went from planet to planet then the file with the oldest date must be the home planet.

Wheat and egg-shoot tend to produce a lot more seeds per harvest than most other plants. Generally what I do is plan the stuff two or three times until I have 20 or 30 seeds. and take 5-10 seeds with me as "back up", so even if i lose my homeworld or scrap my universe file, I can start over again.

It's just so much more convenient to not build a base on any planet. Just keep everything on your ship. This is especially true because they'll be adding ship expansion soon

I was able to buy a fair amount of wheat from some avian vendors and found some carrot seeds. I'm making burgers and carrot bread for now. Still looking for some wheat seeds. I took everything off the home planet except the farm, however I think I left the seeds in the chest at the home world instead of in the chest on the ship..... Making due though and trying to upgrade to ferozium now.

Or avoid all of those awful solutions and have them available elsewhere.

just start a new char (who will start with wheat seeds) and place the wheat seeds in a chest.
Note the coordinates and name of it's starting planet.
Go there with the char you need wheat seeds for ... profit!

Or just find more. I promise you that you can still find more seeds in chests or crates around the universe. Believe me, I've found enough of them. They can also be harvested if a planet naturally grows it as one of its plants.

With the partial wipe today, it probably is a good idea to start over. I'm still wearing impervium armor and have all the ores I kept in my inventory, however my ship is empty and everything's gone that wasn't in my inventory :)
Probably a good excuse to start over. I can still travel to level 10 planets in X, however I'd have defeat all the bosses again to get my crafting stations back.

I'm actually loving the eyeball trees...food and wood all in one. Now, if only they could be replanted...

Exactly what I have been doing with every seed I found. I have a storage locker just for seeds on my ship, I keep cultivars of at least 20 of each seed there. Now we have tree saplings not sure if I should just pick a tree I like the most and over-propagate it or one of each.
