I'm not even CLOSE to a writer, and I've never even suggested a quest for a game before, so forgive the lack of fancy details and such. I just want to throw this out there because I think it would work great. I would love to land on a planet, and find that it is besieged by enemies. The local population is in danger of being wiped out. You approach one of the NPC's in the area, and they tell you that if they cannot hold this last base, their kind will be completely lost. The enemy are merciless, and they're taking no prisoners. Outraged by what you see, you decide to join the fight, and take their last stand with them. As you help the defenders, perhaps by gathering weapons, armor, or other items from the fallen enemies, their position becomes stronger. You could be sent on additional errands, perhaps even bringing back an orbital cannon to strike down the enemy. If you FAIL the quest, their world is devastated. If you complete it, the enemy is driven back and you gain access to their technology as well as that of the grateful defenders. This could be blueprints, rare items or artifacts, or even a member or members of their race ready and willing to join you for helping them. I'm a sucker for helping the underdog in a fight
Sounds fun, Lady - I've been toying with a similar idea for one of my mini quests but this is considerably larger than that! It'd be really cool to rescue them and still have what remains of their little town on the map after it all ends.
<nods> I'm thinking sort of a one shot deal at some kind of special tech or gear. If you let the civilization die, you never get to know what they knew.
So, are you saying that in this sidequest, you have to *takes a large inhale through the nose* SAVE THE WORLD Also, fantastic idea here, one that, although short, is definitely in-game material.
you should also have the choice to join the attackers side which will give you alot less XP and money and all that stuff but you will get a 50% chance to keep the planet
I like the idea but I'd want to leave moral decisions to the players. Possibility to join either side as a regular helper/mercenary, in one case moving in with some squad to take the last defender's base, in the other protecting that base and possibly sharing found resources and equipment with defenders, each given item providing some generic points certain (high) amount of resulting in defenders acquiring enough supplies to drive off the invaders. Attackers can offer generic cash and possibly some older model of one of the suits their regular troopers are using, defenders offering mostly some nice decorational item of sentimental value (although sellable for some nice dough). This way the idea allows different choices without need for coders to script much. Rewards are also somewhat realistic and we avoid idiotic stereotypical scheme of 'the good guys' giving better reward, often powerful enough that they should have use them themsleves and they wouldn't have a problem in the first place. Joining attackers side I already regarded - it's a good idea. We do not know whether there will be any XP available though as well as I don't really know what do you mean by 'keeping' the planet as I am yet to hear that some ownership will be implemented (nor I really think it would be necessary, it's not MMO for thousands of players to claim different worlds for themselves).
Yes they have announced that you will be able to take over planets if you have explored it all and eliminated most of the hostile mobs
