    2 things:
    1. How are these saplings used? They seem to come in small pods and I'm not sure how to make them grow.
    2. <todo> what is that? to do? as in they still have to make names? please reply with your questions or answers

Did you mean to include a picture? "These saplings" sounds like you were referencing something specific.

EDIT: My mistake. I was checking the forums while waiting for the update to install. I know what you're talking about now, but I don't know what they do.

I'm wondering the same thing. These saplings come in some weird looking jar with a dome lid on it and the sappling inside.

I notice that I can only place them on dirt ground, can't place them on the floor of the ship unless I place dirt on the floor first. But I don't know how to harvest them or if they'll pop out of their special domed cup or what.

Yes, they are basically saplings without a proper name.

I planted a few on dirt (no hoe needed), and it took about 10-30 minutes for them to fully grow into a tree.

The little 'dome' will over time crack visually, and then disappear once it's a tree.

They work on snow. just plant them and they will start cracking and grow.

It seems you can't put them too close together or else the saplings will disappear. Had around 20 trees planted right next to each other. One tree grew, all others simply disappeared. Not sure if it's a bug,but it looks like it.

Actually, you can plant saplings next to each other.

And the growth time is fairly quick, just gotta wait until they crack the biodome and then beam to ship then back down, it generally makes them grow into trees as apparently they don't do it while the player is nearby.

Didn't you know? The races of Starbound refer to the saplings as "Todos". Pronounced "Toh-does".
