This is basically what you're looking for, I think? =) http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/director-mode.5522/
You could unlock sandbox mode (which would be singleplayer only) after you have finished the main quest if there is one.
Why not let people cheat themself items? It's THEIR game, and they can do what they want. EDIT: I just realized that it would mean they could trade spawned in items for legit items. durrrrrr
i guess none of you feel the same way its not that you spoil everything in the game you take away the whole survival challenge aspect when you have sandbox. even if you have beaten the game you would most likely never play story mode again and you would never try to work for your gear anymore. starbound has a few rpg like aspects to it and feel like having a sandbox mode would be like having automatic level 100s after beating the elite four in Pokemon.
Found what i was talking about, got the name wrong, still seems kind of what you're asking for: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/director-mode.5522/ Edit: hurp derp someone beat me to it
Hehe, only because I visit that thread often to show people the conversation when i'm getting them into starbound
This is creative mode we are talking about. There wouldn't be any main quests in it. The developers said you will be able to make your own quests and custom maps so this is the the perfect use of creative mode. And by the way saying ''its already a sandbox game'' doesn't mean anything. Minecraft is a sandbox game and it has separate creative mode does it?
There will probably be several different sandbox-type modes, so I don't think you have to worry much. ...is that a quadruple post? you should probably fix that.
Y'see, that's why it's partially up to the player to challenge themselves in a sandbox game. Personally, I never play creative mode on Minecraft because I find it incredibly boring. However, I have used Minecraft creative mode to show things to my friends, and I could definitely see a complete "god mode" being used the same way, as long as it is entirely seperate from the rest of the game, and proper measures are taken to prevent it from being abused in any way that would effect other players' games. Of course, if it were to put back the release date in any way, then I'd definitely rather see the game release without it, and have it added later in. Long story short, it'd be a neat thing to have for people who'd want to use it.
While I DO understand what the OP was about, I don't think having a creative mode is such a good idea. If people just build things in the normal "Adventure?" mode, than it would be much more greatly appreciated. I think that creative mode is a bit lazy.
That is true. I guess it couldn't hurt the game. Could probably make servers easier to run, too, if the administrator can switch between creative and survival whatever it's going to be called.
"Exploration Mode" has my vote. Also, Director mode will have the abilities of creative mode, as well as things like spawning in enemies and taking control of NPCs. I don't think you'll miss a "Creative Mode" too much.
Yea, I cannot WAIT for director mode. It's going to redefine multiplayer servers. And, yes, let's call it Exploration Mode. I like that.
Personally, I'll probably be hosting and playing director mode for my friends while they play, although I suppose we could take turns. That will probably be later in my Starbound career though, everyone is going to want to start off with Exploration.
You can alter pretty much everything already, and if you want a planet with lower gravity, I'm quite sure you can find one, and then edit everything. And think about it, with thousands of weapons, armours, and NPC's, it would be confusing as hell to have possibly a million options at once. And on top of that, it negates the single player game. Instead of playing through and working hard to get everything the way you want it, you can go straight into that mode, and get everything end-game, and make an entire planet into one building if you wanted. Basically my point is that single player will have massive options already, and making a secondary universe and player system is kinda pointless.
that director mode sounds pretty awesome! and will probably be more than what i wanted hope it will get implemented! and for the people saying it would destroy the game experience or whatever, remember: it would be optional to play the "sandbox" mode
