Same world?

I don't know if this has been pointed out yet but here's what I found.
If you watch the Starbound demo

    and the Yogcast let's play

you'll notice that the world and the monsters are the same...
So...what happened to procedural generation? Did the devs mean to put the same world or every starting planet is actually the same for every race?

Its very possible that they had set that to be the "demo world" in order to remain in a controlled environment. I couldn't tell you.

I assume its like that only for the demo.

Devs stated, that much of the game was disabled for the purpose of this demo-build, so probably random starting worlds were disabled too.

You can see random worlds in one of the videos where they travel thru space (Legris video I think). It keeps crashing a lot when generating new worlds. This might be the reason for same starting world in demo.

At the moment/time they probably just have it where anyone starts above the same planet. They could probably make it so it picks a random low level planet. It's only alpha in those videos and they had things disabled as well.
I don't totally know how to explain the procedural generation for planets. I guess it's kind of pre-set procedural generation. You are always going to be able to find the same planets if you go to the same area in the universe. Think of the universe like all one seed in Minecraft- when you use the same Minecraft seed multiple times it creates the same exact world generation.

Yeah, the only random thing in this planet generation is your choice of where to go. Everything else is handled by procedural generation engine based on the coordinates.

They probably wanted the starting world to always be a forest so it's guaranteed to have everything you need for tutorial purposes. After all, if you ended up on an arctic or desert planet you might not be able to find the fuel you need to leave.

But in general, yes, they probably chose this planet beforehand for their demonstration. I'm guessing the multiplayer system as currently implemented has everyone start on the same planet so they can begin interacting with each other right away. That won't necessarily be the case in the final product. Remember, even though their characters weren't being saved, they always logged into the same server.

  9. Yeah, that was just for the demo.
We're not finished balancing things, so we found a good seed to use as a starter planet for the demo to ensure everyone had sort of an equal experience.

Speaking of character-saving-- this was mentioned to me a few times at I49 as something that'd been brought up on Reddit and a few other places, and I'm not sure if it's been addressed yet?

There's no horrifying character-saving bug, we disabled character-saving because loads of people were playing on the same PCs.

The Dev's stated that this was gonna be a demo world that was highly controlled so that a quicker progression could be had. Would you rather Yogscast play the game with 1-3 damage daggers rather then the 30 damage swords and Infinite bullet guns they were given. I am damn sure the community would STILL be complaining since i have a feeling Sips and Sjin would currently be in hour 100 of gameplay .

Hmmm imagine Spawing on a level ten planet. you'd wear out the regen tank (if thats how you respawn) just getting enough lives to get some fuel

    Chop, chop, death....Chop chop death,
    Chop, chop, death....Chop chop death
    yay one tree.

That would have made the demo awesome. I can see people throwing mice in frustration in my little brain movie.

I am sure there will be something implemented in so that you don't spawn on high lvl planets starting out.

I'm sure there will. I be glad for it too. My brain just wanders of down some weird paths and I have to share or I will go more bonkers than I am now.
