Firstly, I'd like to say this update has been amazing so far and revitalized my love for this game. Is it safe to build on planets yet though, without fear of wipe?
Well, if you count meteors raining down upon your house as safe. In the planet selector (when you pick a planet to fly to), it'll have little pictures of what the weather's like. Don't build on a planet with meteors. Just don't.
i mean like is there any chance of them wiping planets or something if I wanna start some huge constructions on a peaceful planet
Mmmmmmmmmm I'd say wipes are unlikely, but not impossible? I mean, I can't imagine they'd reboot the whole damn universe again. I'm not sure what they could do to necessitate that. The last wipe was because they did away with the Sectors and reworked planet groupings, a fundamental change that outright required a complete start-over. Unless they change the entire "_____ Star" thing, there'd be no need to wipe the slate clean. Any tweaks or additions they make (new planet/biome types, reworked ore gen, new dungeons/constructs, etc) they'd put in the script that tells the game what to generate for worlds you've yet to set foot on, since those don't actually exist on your computer yet. Thus, any planet you've visited would remain unchanged. Still, I'd back up any planets with major builds on them outside your Steam folders just to be safe. Ooh, I should do that myself.
ChuckleFish will do its best to avoid wipes, but if wipe are needed, they will do it. There will also be bugs and code updates, rendering old things unusable. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I have already set up shop on a planet and have build a pretty nice starter world to live on. If @Beatrice can handle wipes, you can too. (Beatrice built so much, she spanned over star systems)
Hopefully that'll happen and not a partial world wipe once Hylotl/Novakid settlements get implemented. Then again, I do hop from planet to planet on giant exploration binges every so often....
Like I said, that shouldn't be necessary, assuming they're not gonna majorly change the fundamental layout of the universe. Anything new should just get added to worlds yet unexplored. Well, if need be, you should be able to re-set any planet by deleting its .WORLD file (and I think there's another file in the same folder attached to it), which starts it fresh once you set down on it again, re-creating it according to the most updated generation script. Should. Experiment with a world you don't care about at all.
While unlikely, do remember that the game IS still in early acces. There's always the possibility of some update requireing a fresh start
