Running, Dash Attacks, Charging, and Weak Points?

    Running:
I don't know if running is already in the game, but I think it would be neat if you could double tap a left/right arrow key to run. Maybe add an energy bar? Currently the running/walking pace in the Starbound videos is good, leave that for the walking animation and have running be a bit faster. I got this reference from Tekken (fighting game) where you could double tap an arrow to run, and then perform different moves which leads to Dash Attacks!

    Dash Attacks:
When running, you could perform a different move with your melee weapon that cancels the running and has a different and longer animation then a normal attack with that weapon. I don't think range weapon like guns, bows, etc should get a dash attack. There meant to be range weapons. Imagine running with a sword or axe and then dash attacking an monster. If it is successful hit, it'll be x1.5 stronger then a normal attack and stun the monster for a second or two so you can keep on performing combos. There's also a time window so that you or your opponent cant just spam stuns. You can also do it close range, just double tap so your *running* and then attack right away to perform a dash attack. You don't have to be fully running. Overpowered? I don't think so, to deflect it you just bring out your shield or just move out of the way in time and since dash attacks are a bit longer then a normal attack, it leaves that person wide open. Unlike in Terraria how every weapon only had one animation, maybe add ways to perform different moves and add a whole new battle system! Just imagine the combos!

You and a friend perform combos with each other. You dash attack, stun the enemy and then your friend comes in at a right time to perform another dash attack and repeat. Or one of you could be a ranger, you dash attack, stun the enemy while your friend is adding damage through shooting arrows or bullets. :viking:

    Charging:

Simple, range weapons go further, hit harder and melee weapons hit harder as well. Only for melee weapons and range weapons that aren't mechanical like Bows, Throwing, (knives, shurikens, etc) logical stuff. This would also be good for Dash attacking combos, stun them and charge up an attack? Maybe have a Megaman Buster where you can charge it up, and use it to obviously hit monsters or hit the ground to get launched into the air? I dont know... :3

    Weak Points:
Mostly in Terraria, if you hit anywhere on a monster, it deals the same damage. What I'm suggesting is weak points, some Zelda stuff right here. Like if the monster has a shell, wearing Armour, etc, hitting it in the area that's expose, it should deal more damage then to the areas that aren't expose. Same with pvp, if there wearing a less tier armour or are not wearing armour on a equip space and is leaving them expose, monsters or players hitting that spot will cause more damage. Would love to see some bosses be like this, where you have to hit the eye or like a certain spot to defeat it? D:

I know this game is suppose to be released some what soon so there might not be enough time. Plus adding new combat systems and spriting all of this would take time, these are just some suggestions. Would love to see this but It's reasonable if you guys don't. c:

Running, there will probably be some form of accessory allowing you. Increased speed is just the case. Weak points I especially like, I know MY weak point. ;)

Anyway, I love these ideas, originality wise, I'd say just about halfway because I'm sure I've seen similar ideas somewhere about in this forum, correct me if I'm wrong, maybe I'm just getting all confused up about everything.

Enemies will already be able to use shields or have shields on parts of their bodies.

But, i really like your other ideas.

i like it, but it doesn't seem to go with what starbound is about.

It seems to be, by the effort they've put into ranged weapons, that those are really going to be what it's all about. Melee, I see as being more of a backup tool for confined quarters fighting or stealth work where the high single shot damage and short engagement range favour it over a rocket launcher or smg. Putting a tonne of detail in would probably just get missed in the dazzling array of guns, although it is absolutely something that should be added in after the primary content. Having an intricate and enjoyable system for everything, even minor aspects, is one of the hallmarks of the best games.

I'm not sure I get that they are trying to push focus onto ranged weapons and not use melee though. It uses some of the mechanics of the 2D world of Terraria so I can't imagine that melee will be disregarded. I think that the ranged weapons are just shown because they show more variety in waht they are capable of is why that is what we see more of.

But you have to consider why they've put so much effort into ranged weapons, when it's just as possible for melee. Of course, they might be doing just that, right now, as we speak.

They haven't put more effort into ranged weapons, it just seems that way because they did ranged weapons first and are still working on melee weapons.

  11. Good ideas. I always kinda did like the idea of some sort of Stamina bar, as long as it doesn't run out too quick, or last so long that it doesn't matter.

They have stated that armor fit for ranged combat will have very weak defenses so I'd guess that most will walk around with melee weapons when they mine or explore since you are less vulnerable to surprises then.
