whats a tandem?

 

If these happen, this would be great.

Tandem means working at the same time. So ten servers running five people at once rather than one server running all fifty at once.

Nice dude. So what if we built a net work conecting all of the corps running there own servers togeather? One could build a complex in a planet that contains warps to all the diff servers, or just stich them togeather directly. (although, that would bring having all the servers non conected back into play.) Then if one ever went down, the rest would work. But it would be confusing, enless there was a middle man server maybe?

 

Younger then I would like to say, but I been on the forums/internet for a long time, and i never heard anyone say Tandem...

Well, this certainly seems promising, and has garnered quite a bit of support, so I'm here to offer my writing skills for any purpose you may need it for.

 

Well if each corp made there own server, or some shared, we could make an inter server portal that leads from there server to a hub, where there would be more portals too other corps servers. This could probably be a massive underground complex in a large planet.

 

I've been an admin on quite some roleplaying servers on SAMP and on shores of hazeron, so I think I could be of help, I support it.

 

I think that having a central hub is the only practical way to deal with this -- no server can really deal with hundreds of people coming in and out of it.

Or server hubs, if possible.

If that doesn't work, I'd expect something such as a "server list" website to pop up, and have a separate section for the corporations (hopefully).

 

Probably just a thread in the corp section.

I don't know what the plans are for you guys but I've been intending to rent a rather large server for Starbound for some time now. 50-100player depending on how things look further down the line. It's hard to estimate the exact cost for a Starbound server but I've looked in to it a bit and a 64p Minecraft/Terraria server cost ~600€/year which I've prepared my budget for and more just in case. This is of course if there is interest in such a server.

As for the topic, I really wouldn't mind dedicating such a server to something like this. Unfortunately though there's a flaw in every plan. I intend to use Roxservers (rented their servers for maybe a total time of 1.5 years for Killing Floor and Terraria and I trust them) which means that the server will be located in france and I have this distinct feeling that around 80% of you mates are from the US.

I've played Minecraft on an ausy server, ive played on a UK server, I don't really care where it is, so long is its not really laggy. It all depends on your company.

 

the cost is based on how much ram is being used, if Starbound servers dont use much(100MB+) then it shouldnt cost too much

 

You put up a website with the adresses for all the servers on it. Each server will have ports to all the others on one of their worlds. Then each corp would have to support their own server based on its size and if they allowed visitors. Still... it would be nice if somebody could support a hub though not required.
