I was wondering if you will be able to roll in the game? It would be a simple thing and yet it would open nice new possibilities and make fighting more dynamic. How it would work: During combat using a shield wouldn't be the only option you have - if you want to be a rogue-like fighter or if you want to have weapons in both hands and not become an easy target, you could roll instead. While rolling the chance to dodge attacks would be increased greatly. You could also use roll to get through holes that would normally be too small. Rolling should have a small cooldown so it wouldn't be spammed too much. Also, rolling and attacking an enemy from behind could deal bonus backstab damage, or perhaps a guaranteed critical. Sprint-rolling allows you to roll down the hill, a fairly long distance on even ground and even slightly upslope. Of course, you can interupt rolling by jumping, so you wouldn't roll downhill into some lava pit(this point is just for the sake of fun, because sometimes it's really fun to roll downhill). How well rolling works depends on your movement speed. If this would be done then this is how roles would pretty much go Rolling melee dps owns shielded player(it's hard to turn your shield at the right moment when the opponent keeps changing the side he's attacking from) shielded player owns ranged dps(easy to block ranged attacks. All you need to do is get in range for your sword) ranged dps owns rolling melee dps(continuous fire is death. Whenever you stop rolling you will get hit several times and take severe damage since you won't have as much armor/hp as a tank) Of course, this is nowhere near certain. It would all depend on the situation. For example is melee dps reached a ranger in time he would likely win. Or if a tank has good reaction time.
Yes, but that's not the only purpose for rolling i mean. In battle warrior-tank-MetalMountain like players can use shields, sure, but if i want to be stealthier, jumpier rogue-like, i would prefer to roll in battle. Rolling could also increase my chances to dodge as well.
Could be like in Super Smash Bros. Brawl where rolling will dodge attacks during the animation. Giving the roll a few seconds of cooldown would prevent it from being spammed in combat with other players. Also, rolling behind enemies to get backstab bonuses would be cool too, or perhaps some enemies will take more damage from behind. Regardless, cool idea.
Yes this should be implemented into Starbound, I recommend that you add ideas from you or the comments and make it more formatted and nice then try to get a dev to see it.
I like the idea, I personally will be one of those... but the more variety of playstyles the better I say.
I think your best chance is to make it great and get a lot of people to comment/veiw and that might get their attantion.
Omni's superpower is going through loads of information and finding useful tidbits, so don't worry about getting seen. Regardless, just make it look nice and format it a bit to make the pertinant bits of information highly visible.
I tried to change it as you suggested. I'm not sure i can shorten it or decrease the number of highlighted sentences any more though. Is it ok now?
How about this: You sprint then press down (this will work for platforms if you need to press down+jump to go through them) to roll. You roll for five-seven blocks (depending on your agility/your speed), three for uphill and ten after a five-block slope. That would be good.
I'd love to have a dodge roll type move(maybe just tap an arrow key twice quickly for it or something?) or even just a quick back step/ forward dash(like in castlevania) rolling down a hill doesn't seem necessary to me if there's a sprint option available, I'd just like to be able to have sprint, and a quick dodge/ back & forward dash to avoid enemy attacks or get in close
This would also really help ranged characters stay away from large groups of mobs. Especially in tunnels where you can't jump over them
this suggestion would be good for monster and bullet evasion if ur fighting a monster or doing pvp it works for me
The main idea is for dodging, rolling down hills is just because it's a fun thing to do. It would help both in PvP and PvE and it would also help a lot for characters who are using 2 handed weapons and can't get a shield or for those dual-wielding weapons. Of course, it wouldn't be as good as using a shield, but it would be close enough. The best thing it would be for is dodging bullets/weapon attacks, rolling away from a deadly beam or rolling out of a position in which you are surrounded.
Just signed up, forgot to drop my support for this, it's something that I think would have done very well in Terraria(and was even suggested a couple times) otherwise pvp is going to be next to impossible without a shield.
