Roleplay in Starbound

I am an avid roleplayer in a variety of mediums, so this is a topic of great personal interest to me. I have not heard too much about this from other players on other threads, so I figured I would go out there and ask directly. So, my question is thus: how interested in roleplaying via Starbound is everyone here, and what sort of things are you expecting out of it if you are interested? More to the point, what sort of characters do you have in mind for roleplaying in starbound?

Feel free to post your ideas for characters and such, as well as ideas for roleplay plots in general, as well as why you may or may not be interested in roleplaying in Starbound. Or, potentially, discussing thoughts of building a roleplay community for Starbound (if this is something already happening, feel free to correct me).

 

I'd bet a lot of people are going to roleplay. Starbound seems kind of an ideal game for that sort of thing. (I'm not a roleplayer though)

To be fair Roleplaying is something that interests me a great deal, but my problem is that whenever i try to roleplay i feel kinda silly and have a hard time taking it serious.
The only times ive been able to succesfully is when i play D&D with friends.

I've dabbled with Roleplaying, but I can see Roleplaying being quite an interesting addition to the Starbound game, and would add an extra level of enjoyment too it. Especially with the addition of group skype calls, etc.

 

I'm going to roleplay all the time in Starbound. I love the feel of games I get when I roleplay, Not to mention it can extend the time it takes to do anything, because there is a lack of meta-game, and therefor you don't rush ahead to much just to 'get it done'. And yet you still have fun doing it.

TLDR; I will be roleplaying often.

 

Same here, I also have the same problem of feeling silly and struggling to take it seriously now. I guess you could say I grew out of it.
The last time I roleplayed, which was a while back, was in err... SotDRP on Warcraft 3

 

I believe that "director mode" that Tiy was talking about will help, with the director basically being the "dungeon master". Of all the times I've RP'd, I never really had a massive amount of fun doing it, but when someone is pulling the strings and making the adventure a reality, then its fun.

I guess I've only really RP'd when I felt like I was part of the story or adventure and it was, at least somewhat flexible. So I might, but only in director mode or in adventure maps.

 

I like to RP quite a bit, and probably will on Starbound too - mostly with friends, though.

 

I did quite a bit of Roleplaying back in the day with Terraria. It was on an enjoyable, if not overly strict server. That said, I'm sure there will be plenty of potential, servers dedicated to the thing will likely pop up all over upon release.

 

I don't plan on roleplaying. My character will probably be human and have whatever backstory the intro gives to him/her.

now that is intresting first time i've heard of a dungion master mode. as for myself maybe though it would be for the first time so I might be pants at it

 

Being a DnD player, and how i used to roleplay a lot. I wouldnt mind RPing a character on a server. I am sure there will be dedicated servers for it, just like there will be PVP and Creative servers.

I've not roleplayed much in my life. Usually when I tried I was too hardcore. I'd start killing my friends. Then they'd get mad and not let me roleplay anymore.

In fact, the dev team once played some D&D thing. Real dungeon master and everything. Tiy didn't have to roleplay because he's a jerk in real life and began attacking friendlies. Then many of us ganged up on him to murder him. He lied there incapacitate, unable to act and we left him bleeding to death. Playing games together makes us work closer as a "team".

 

Dear god that is horrifying hillarious.

 

I would love to RP in a voice chat server, have no experience with roleplaying so it would
be a nice change to do it sometime.
