So, we make parts of a robot boss, hunt for a brain and put the parts together...

Only to destroy it so we can collect a piece of the ROBOT WE JUST MADE?

Does this ring any alarms to you? I mean, when ENTIRELY HAND MADE THE ROBOT, then took away a piece BY FIGHTING IT TO THE DEATH.

    We JUST MADE THAT PROCESSOR.

Yeah... but.... It was an awesome robot..

I noticed this as well, remember it is Beta, perhaps there is something else planned for the future.

I just got through this fight for the first time (finally right?) and this irritated the shit out of me.

I'm assuming that the processor like gets some data from the brain you put into it or the fight or something? I dunno. My friends and I ended up making and fighting it via a fluke because we thought it was going to be a little buddy who'd follow you around or be a super guard for your base or something like that. Plus it was super expensive and we'd been stuck in the Beta sector for a while so why not?

My hope is that the bosses are just stand ins for fights against creatures that are more thought out, both thematically and mechanically.

This bugged me too, but I know that the bosses are going to change later and I find it hard to believe that the developers are unaware of this gaping flaw in logic. I'm sure they have other plans that hopefully make more sense than building something just for it to try to kill you so you can tear it apart again.....

Maybe, we created to be our friend/servant and then it ended up malfunctioning, forcing us to fight it.
Then by wrecking it, we find that the robot had collected data about the Gamma sector and we end up using the processor to unlock more information to travel to it.

But real talk, I put it down after I made it and my friend and I thought it was going to fight for us. But it just stood still, so my friend went over to it and said, "Wait a minute, this is a boss! Don't press-"

And as curious as I was, I pressed "E" and sh*t hit the fan.

    Pfff, kids these days...

Have you ever visited an intel or AMD factory? Do you think they just get the silicon and build processors out of it?!
NO! They build giant evil mechas and fight against them to scavenge the processor out of it later!

Next time, do some research before posting these things again...

Clearly we would have just used the robot for our navigation purposes had it not been a psychotic killing machine.

Who would have thought using the brains of our murder victims would be a bad idea?

    I fought it legit!

About the same degree of challenge, though. He couldn't attack while moving and my shield nullified the entirety of it's damage.

After my first character, I don't even bother with that. I find its easier to summon the bosses on the airships and watch all the avians kill it for you while sipping a latte.

My coworker once told me something along the lines of that, then followed by saying "The only difference between them and I, is that their evil laugh is much better."

  16. well to be fair we didnt made it by hand, did we?
i whouldnt say that anything made by that lavaspilling-anvil could be considdered "handmade"

Yeah.. you're not the only one who was confused by this. Perhaps it could be resolved by changing the name/description on the processor to saying something to the effect of "QA approved processor" or "combat-tested *something here." I mean, you do fight your own creation (the robot) so perhaps that was necessary to get necessary data for whatever part you DO want out of the robot. I'm just speculating on alternative routes of going about this, but this feels like it might be a better option than just listing the item as "Processor" and as you so eloquently put it, you just MADE the processor!

    Better.

The robot's purpose is to collect data on the gamma sector. You activate it and it flies off.

After a while, it doesnt come back. It could be a quest like event. After a certain amount of time you are encouraged to go find it.

You follow its homing beacon to a random system, and somewhere on the surface of one of the planets, you will find the robot. When you try to activate it again, it becomes hostile and you have to destroy it.

It drops a "Filled Data Core" and a codex entry upon death, which, upon reading the codex, you discover the robot had found the data but the data corrupted its previous memory, and thats why it did not return and also why it became hostile towards you when you tried to remove its data core.

Logic error fixed, and it gets you to explore!

Would be lovely if they changed it into this, would make a lot more sense too!

I agree that the logic in destroying a robot you just built to obtain an item from it doesn't compute. Here comes the but....given that the last quest so far is to build and activate a beacon, they will put in a quest that probably makes more sense with the robot boss.

At least I ,and it seems everyone else, hope so.
