Possibly (it could function like the harp in Terraria), but it could just be a vanity item. Or it could just not be in the game. But knowing Tiy, he's probably going to make it play sound.

Also maybe different instruments could do different things. A electric guitar could give an AoE damage buff, a harp could give an AoE hp regen, the drums could do AoE damage, etc.

I'd love if instruments played sound like the harp/bell in Terraria. It would be great if you could click as fast/much as you want so you could kind of create "music" better, heh.
I'd suggest like fully composing music from a little pop-up or out of game thing, but Starbound doesn't really feel like the kind of game for that imo.
