I've noticed that on race selection screenshots there seem to be [<][>] butons to change appearance and color of various parts of a character. While these preset-switching buttons are completely fine in case of seeming, in my opinion it is way better to provide us with ability to enter RGB values for colors. Sure, this means blue-skinned humans and pink florans, but: 1. Who cares anyway, especially in single player? If I want to play pink floran (I don't, but if), then I should be able to play one. Hell, maybe he is a subtype of fuchsia plant. 2. In multiplayer this may provoke some grumbling of high-horse self-acclaimed roleplayers and loremasters, but I say they are racist bigots if they are against coloristic diversity. Funny thing is, I personally probably will play fair-skinned human with brown hair and, if possible, somewhat greenish gray eyes. Basically, myself. But I like to think that it is possible for other people to create various funny-looking freaks. For example, why not play as a group of green-skinned humans and apex, roleplaying tribe of orcs? That's good stuff. -- Another similar request, I don't want to create another thread, so here is. I'd really liked that we could change color values for our equipment. I don't care if it is free, through some vanity items or even expensive repainting machinery, but: 1. I want to wear orange equipment of one specific hue. Because I want to, and nobody gets hurt if I am able to. I am sure that other people have similar predisposition to some favorite colors. 2. It is nice to have color-coding in clans and PvP teams. This request also applies to vehicles. Red ones go faster! But vehicles could also use various patterns. Solid color, checkered, diagonal stripes, camouflage et cetera. Again, I personally really like to use camouflage pattern in orange colors, and yes, I know that it defies the purpose, but it looks funny.
In Terraria, there was a RGB scale because they have 1 race- humans. This added a RP subject (that I used) but confused most other people who did not care. Anyway, I'd prefer this kind of scale: We don't need to have the options at the top, though. With this people can figure out what color they are going to be quickly without testing with all the colors and everything.
RGB sliders, especially in the case of Terraria, are really primitive and not that good. I would prefer preset colors or what Galactic Mindswipe suggested over another RGB slider any day.
HSV sliders are much better by the way. Even more so then what Galactic posted up above. Basically they have hue, which is a slider roughly corresponding to the color wheel. Then, they have saturation, which is how "much" of a color there is. Then, they have value, which is how much "black" is added to the color. So, red hue, low saturation, and medium value results in reddish grey.
It really does not matter much. RGB or HSV are both way better than arbitrary low number of preset colors, and this is what I am talking about. Personally I don't care if it is RGB or HSV, but maybe that's because of my professional background. If people do prefer HSV presentation over RGB one, that's cool. I actually used term "RGB values" as in final result, because no matter what color model you are using, outcome is displayed on RGB monitor in RGB. Again, possibility to choose any color you want is important.
Well, entering RGB values directly is not quite "user friendly" as it requires direct knowledge of how RGB values work, HSV values are rather self-evident, even more so if via sliders.
