  1. I don't think they should disregard the idea of having more unique mobs alongside the pro-gen'd ones. Why not keep both?

    Fair enough your opinion

They've had plans for unique monsters alongside rando-generated ones for a while now, if you can recall some of the early stuff they talked about doing eventually. However that's a great deal different than not wanting Random monsters at all, the size and scope of Starbound makes that completely impractical without repeating monsters or basic recolors. It would be one more thing to complain about heavily, 'all the enemies are just recolors of other enemies!' 'Here is a chart and graph showing that there aren't actually a bunch of enemies in the game, Chucklefish lied to us I want my money back', etc etc etc. It works on Terraria because the monsters that show up are tied directly to biomes, and with the exception of Crimson/Corruption those biomes are always going to be present on the one 'planet' you get, and ALL your progression is designed to take place in one map, so there doesn't need to be much variation.

Asking them to rewrite the system to something different in the middle of an ongoing rewrite being unreasonable isn't really an opinion, it is just straight up pointless and impractical.

Im not gonna bother trying to explain to you, I repeated 3 times now. you'll just just fight against me. Stop posting on my thread.

  6. That was unnecessary. :/

Magmarashi has a valid point. Completely changing how the monster system works at this point is just impractical and would only further impede progress towards the next update.

I really don't understand why people compare Starbound to other games. Yes it has similarities and took pieces from others, which they made their own, but this is STARBOUND. If you don't like the game right now, remember it's in beta and the devs are still working on it. I don't need to say, "I agree things need to be changed." The devs know many people feel this way and they are constantly working to make a solid final product that players will like to play. Personally one thing I truly hate is when a person or people tell me to do something I am already doing, the devs probably feel this way too. Let's give them a chance and let the beta be a beta.

Sorry, man, I was talking to the guy in orange font.

Of course, you did like that post, so there is that.

Laugh it up, pad-awan. Don't think you can influence me with your Jedi game-controlling button-pusher mind tricks (Force feedback?).

I don't like being petty like this but you've forced my hand: Make Me.

I've read and understood your posts just fine, no repeating is required nor is any assistance in understanding what you mean. Comprehension of your point doesn't change the fact that it's an unreasonable request that would not only draw away time and effort from current work but, in the end, wouldn't actually make the game better. They either have to limit the amount of monsters because they are all special snowflake monsters and resort to recoloring them (this isn't a jrpg) or they have to spend an incredible amount of time making hundreds, maybe THOUSANDS of unique sprites to populate the massive amount of worlds and biome combinations, time that could be much better spent doing what they are doing right now, and people would still be upset because monsters would still repeat.

There is no reason to completely reinvent the wheel just because of a flat tire.

This. If I wanted to play Terraria or Minecraft again, I actually own those games and they still work just fine. I can just apply some texture packs and pretend it's a new game.

I agree, and as Mag said dats da plan man. Also your art rocks thanks again for the sprite work.

Like Dragonith (and Serenity) said, they shouldn't disregard this. It's a valid point. As of right now, monster appearances are all over the place, and it looks silly. They are working on this, however, and I can't wait to see what the new system will look like.

If the devs were to completely disregard this idea, that would mean no more Poptops or Virorbs, which, by the way, look really awesome.

I feel a rumbling (from my controller) ...the force is strong in this one.
I think you will give in to the dark side. (or whatever shade of controller you choose) All the spirits of all the consoles, past present and future, call to you... those jolly, candy-like jewel buttons, so hard to resist there shine. You want control, you can control the control... such power, unlimited power. All those old school, controller based games... yearning to be played again with a controller, at your finger tips... just like old times...

    And to keep on topic...
I agree, this way is best for everyone!

Randomized sets of monsters per planet is fine as it is-- I do hope we're getting more variety than we'l be expecting in Rampaging Koala. I don't expect to see cows on any other planets aside from Earth.

That's pretty much how I read most of the posts around here these days. The question is, young Jedi: Now who is influencing whom?

OT: Yes, randomization is indeed a good purple.

The "request" is an idea, a suggestion. For me it will make the game better, and probably for others.

It will not take an infinity and beyond, to create specific monsters for specific biomes. Im not asking for "snowflake monsters" You have not comprehended my post, despite saying you did. The idea is not ridicules as you make sound out to be. What it comes down to (again repeating myself)

Relatable monsters for relatable biomes/structures, that add good combat mechanics for how they look.

The tire is flat, instead of just replacing it with a new tire that will go flat again. Make a new tire that wont get flat at all!
Its Worth investing time into combat even if it takes a while, starbound is the type of game where you will be fighting a lot. So make the combat great!

All I can really say at this point is I am glad you and those 'probably others' don't actually have a say in how things are done. At the very least, try and be a little clearer about what you want because I am clearly not the only one that thought what you wanted was non-randomly generate monsters, when in fact you want them to just follow sets of rules based on biomes and such.

Monsters parts and types that relate to biomes are a thing they are doing already as part of reworking the random monsters. Certain sorts of random styles for certain biomes and minibiomes, as I understand it. They're already working on that. They're also already working on making monster parts add combat variety to the ways that they can attack so combat isn't all the same for every monster generated. They are already doing these things.

This seems, once more, another thread borne of someone just not bothering to make use of the daily updates and nightly builds to see for themselves how things have and are changing, and instead making demands for things that are already on their way.

How many more of these are we going to get before people make proper use of the information being provided to them?

I do read the fucking updates I already told you that I cant into nightly builds cause frankely I dont have the time. This post was clear before. I did make proper use of my information, and I came up with this. You cant just say "Oh this guy, he dont know what he is talking about" when I already stated many a times a do and backed it up with ideas and what I saw and thought.
They are always one of you jackasses that always get on these threads and try argue just cause you have nothing better to do.
This was a suggestion not a demand, an idea.
Find something else to do then argue with random people of the internet kid.

Magmar, I saw that tire metaphor you tried to perpetuate and have since deleted. You have no idea how idea how close you were to doing actual figurative jail time.
