Replantable trees need to be a priority.

I just hope they will implement it during beta. (hence for testing reasons.)

Im sure that the trees on my planet regrew when i (and my freinds) deforested it, and came back later ot find more trees.

 

It would also be nice to have when you start a server and new people don't have to go on a great adventure to find wood cause the first planet been already been ravaged by other players.

 

Yes, but they are tiny and don't yield wood.

 

I just started playing and after a while I realized that I have not seen any of the trees re-grow.
I get that ores are not a renewable resource, but I should be able to plant some trees around my house.

 

Dude there is wood all over the place. Not what I would call a big priority.

 

Hmm... I think it might already be coded in, but because Tiy said it needs it's own code, it is unpredictable. I have occasionally seen a block instantly grow grass but I have never seen any trees show up.

 

Even tho there is plenty of wood in the whole universe, it would be interesting to be able to make an eco-friendly base or just have it to decorate your base or shrine, w/e...

Even lore-wise it would be cool. I mean, florans obviously like flora (to the point that fauna is not worth of being alive, hehe) and Hy....Hy....FISHY GUYS fit the image of a race which would actually care for the environment.

 

The tree system could use 4 things.

- Seeds. Drop randomly when chopping down trees. They can be planted on soft terraints like dirt, mud and blocks with tilled soil as long as there's no blocks within 30 tiles above them and there's 2 blocks of empty space to their left and right. They take an in-game week to grow. There's currently some seeds that would end up as trees if left alone long enough, like oculemons and bananas.
- Saplings. Require a tool to 'cut' them from other trees (at least tier 2). They can be planted too like seeds, but take half the time to grow.
- Organic fertilizier. Made a crafting station (at least tier 3) out of plan fibers and monster drops such as leather, bones and cell materia. The station works like a chest with a button to start composting. Oraganic fertilized halves the time it takes for saplings and seeds to grow.
- Inorganic fertilizer. Made in an upgrade to the same crafting station (at least tier 4), out of the same materials plus certain blocks such as bone blocks. If the extra blocks are not placed, this crafting station would make just organic fertilizier. Inorganic fertilizer triplicates growth speed of saplings and seeds.

That way as tiers go up replanting trees gets sped up.

 

I am actually surprised this isn't already in game. Seems like one of those things that would be.

 

Seeing as this thread was made when wood was still a source of fuel, I will post my current opinion regardless.

Wood is now as useless to me as lower tier ores. I only need enough wood to make the basic crafting facilities and then, bam, useless.
Just like I only need enough copper to upgrade my pick, make some armor, and, bam, useless unless I want to hoard it for pixels which are already easy enough to get if you are careful.

I understand wood is probably one of the most common building materials, but honestly with no reason to build a house on the surface, besides pure aesthetics, I have not done so.
And as it has been stated, having wood be less renewable promotes planetary exploration for those who seek it.

So in the end, my opinion is leave wood as it currently is.

 

It's definitely already a problem for people on my server. We have about nine people at the moment and it's... frustrating.

 

Bump. Trees NEED to be replantable. I've tried to do this so that I can build a house to stay in, but it's nigh impossible without more wood.

 

Yup, with you on this. I'd like to be able to re-plant after having collected wood/mushrooms/plant fibre/what have you.

Tree seeds could drop when the trees are chopped, similar to other games of the same genre.

 

Just chiming in. Trees dropping even just a single seed so that they could be replanted would help so much. Using torches to light caves really gets you burning through those trees, especially if you make a house or much other stuff out of wood.

 

Some of us are only playing this game for the building aspects. Seeds are going to be implemented (according to what I heard from Tiy), it's just a matter of when.

 

You know you can smelt raw wood into coal for fuel right? So wood becomes really nice to have on hand when you are too lazy to mine or coal gets used up then you can set you home planet as a refueling station that has a bunch of trees and nothing else... just my two cents replantable trees are needed

 

You fail to realize the timing of posts. The one you quoted was just before wood to coal was included in an update. It could also be that you didn't know such a time existed. It doesn't really matter either way though.

 

Just dropping by saying "I support this thread" to make it longer and more awesome.

Really, really would like to see tree planting, or something like a planet forestation (orbital ability).
