-not sure if this has already been posted, if it has, i cant find it -.- I thought it would be cool if when vehicles are damaged / destroyed, you can repair them. The cost would vary depending on the part of the vehicle that has been damaged. If any of you know WoT then they have a little display showing the status of your vehicle and all of its components and crew members. So say your front tire is damaged, it would take a small amount of whatever the tire was made of to repair it. If something is entirely broken then it would affect how the vehicle works as well as costing more to repair. And this brings me to the 2nd part of my post, wrecks. Maybe when the majority (or all) of a vehicle is destroyed it becomes a wreck. wreck would act as barriers so you can take cover behind them, as well as having a graphic of a wrecked version of the vehicle. Then you could also either repair it, which would cost less then building the vehicle, but still a considerable amount. Or you could just destroy the wreck, to either get rid of the cover, or so no one can take it as their own. For some people like me who plan on going pure technology and have our machines and vehicles to do everything for us as we tech out our base, This would be really nice because there is a way to get your vehicle back, but it is risky going back down to the planet. I was also thinking that neutral, passive and most aggressive creatures wouldn't attack the wreck, but maybe some sentient species (like the avians) would destroy it. -sorry if my thoughts are a little bit mixed together, post your comments and ideas to help improve this And here is a link to a idea I think will work really well with this : http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/interchangeable-parts.5544/
This is a good idea; it lets you use your vehicles without fear of them breaking, as long as you are properly equipped to handle it when they do. Meanwhile, the vehicles are still destructible, so you don't get careless.
It's a nifty idea, but being the judgemental person I am, >.< They would need to limit it so your machines don't have 5000 parts that can break, and perhaps all engines could be similar? Maybe like all human-ish engines and other pieces require one universal patch. For example, your ATV's engine breaks down, and you have a spare engine from a motorbike that was destroyed awhile back. Put that one into your ATV and TA-DA! Good as new
So maybe items for each individual part and a new option of salvaging what you can from wrecks, I like it! . And I agree, not too many parts, in WoT there is about 8, i think there should be 6-8 because too many and it gets confusing, too little and its not fun enough
You could just melt down the body while scavenging bits like engine, wheels, etc. If this was implemented it'd be cool coming across some alien vehicle and scavenging a new engine or something.
And I'm sure there would be different classes. You know, bikes and simple vehicles have about 3, and mechs and high end stuff like that would have the 8. Also, maybe broken parts don't render the vehicle useless, but just downgraded. So maybe it stalls every so often, is slower, have weaker and slower shots, that kind of thing. And I thought of something cool, this would be controlled by the server host, but how fun would it be if you could remove parts from your friends mechs while fighting. They'de come in with this massive mech but right before they fire they get stalled
I already said that it would impair the vehicle, but if too many things are destroyed it becomes a wreck. By impared it could be stalling, slower shots, or less accuracy. I also like the idea of being able to target specific parts so you dont have to kill a entire mech, just the guns
or something like the sappers in tf2? But this would add even more dimension to the gameplay of starbound, and make vehicles even more fun
I like it, it adds more customization which I love, it also would work well with my interchangeable parts idea.
How to Destroy someone's base in 3 steps... 1. Crash vehicle into base 2. Repair 3. Repeat I like the idea
This can be balanced out be making the cost to repair expensive enough - You shouldn't be able to repair a mech with, say, 5 iron and 3 wood or something along those lines. How about persistent vehicle damage? Perhaps you could repair at the space station with pixels rather than resources?
Like hiring a mechanic to repair for pay? And I have an idea, maybe a one time use repair kit that fixes a broken part a set amount (like 30% or something). Just for the convenience.
To be honest, while the idea is sound I'd prefer vehicles to be something rather expensive (at least in most cases) meaning requiring rarer components as well as something players should be careful not to lose. I wouldn't mind repairing just damaged vehicles but for those wrecked ones I do think that just salvage of some really token amount of parts should be the most. Idea of the mechanic is a good one. Always something in the direction of NPC interaction. I would hope thought that the mechanic would be unable to fix any and every vehicle in the game. Again, so the rare, expensive vehicles will require some decent effort to be maintained by more careless players.
I think the higher tier vehicles should be pretty expensive, but things like a bike (the non-hover kind) and stuff should be pretty cheap. but I agree with you, the higher tier would need rarer items
