I notice playing today that if you mine the background blocks behind water it starts draining away into nothing. I haven't tried it with lava, but it should work. Has anyone else noticed this? Its a very good way to clear out water in caves! :)

Doesn't work past the rock layer depth.

Which is where most lava outside of volcanic biomes is.

    Still pretty useful, though.

From what I hear they have intentions on releasing some type of "vacuum" so that you don't need countless amounts of buckets to get transport / get rid of water and/or lava.

I like to imagine it being something like that.

I just use my excess dirt... to fill all of it in, if not the surface so I don't fall in.(in case of lava/poison)

Me too Tamorr! I have dirt on 0 on my hotbar and I cover all poisonous water and lava I come across with dirt. You never know when you might be running hell mell back thru that area (maybe even in the dark) and you don't want to die b/c you didn't take a second to cover it the first time, lol.

Mine is usually on 8, as 0 is my torches and 9 is a spare campfire. It is so right, can't count how many times I almost fell in the underground into poison without even knowing it was there. Blends in with the surroundings sometimes, especially when it is 1 block. lol

I think it's fascinating how everybody sets up their hotbar so differently! Mine is always the same: 1- manipulator, 2- 1h weapon, 3- bow, 4- bandages, 5- food, L- 2h weapon, R- shield, 6- flashlight, 7- torches, 8- pick, 9- axe, 0- dirt. On every single character. :D

You can also teleport out of caves til ya hit that layer, so even if you fall in just pop out a hole and get out to fight another day... with money.

yeah there was a thread about setups... http://community.playstarbound.com/...your-toolbar-hotbar.64000/page-2#post-1667395

    Mine usually:
    1. 2 handed weapon
    2. Flashlight/2nd weapon (alternate item)
    3. Pickaxe (digging tool)
    4. Axe
    5. Hunting weapon (One that can get leather)
    L. matter manipulator
    R. Shield
    6. Healing item (usually bandages)
    7. Food
    8. dirt (any abundant material i have)
    9. campfire
    0. Torches

Think I roughly say the same in that thread I mentioned above. I actually do find it interesting how many different ways people have their hotbar as well. :D
