Remove/improve hunger system?

I'm glad that the framework for a needs system is in place. That said, i think they need to disable it until they can refine the entire survival system further. Right now it feels tacked on like an experimental mod.

Before a moderator has to step in, can we just drop it?
The thread is getting derailed for no good reason.

    I'm just sayin,

If the hunger system didn't exist to begin with, NONE of you would be complaining here. A game like Risk of Rain has more reason than Starbound has to include a hunger bar, yet it doesn't have one, and its amazing.

While this is sound enough reasoning, what if people complained about there being no hunger bar?
Lets get real here, a hunger system in a survival game would be one of the first things suggested in
    the suggestions forum.

Risk of Rain is a survival game, you are trying your dear hardest to survive against everything on an abandoned planet, where everything and everyone wants you dead.
Don't Starve is a survival game, where death is truly a threat, where shelter is important, where monsters are a real threat, where you best friend is a pointy stick.
Starbound is hardly a survival game, where cheese is everywhere, where lazers and pig-guns exist, where rainbow capes exist, where your home is a SPACE SHIP.

True, but Risk of Rain is a rougelike. You're meant to die, hunger would detract from the experience.
Don't Starve is a completely different sort of survival game, some might call it survival horror.
Starbound is a game in development. Where the systems are young, hell, you risk a character wipe
every update. Its too early to judge.

-Imagine dying from not finding water fast enough or not being able to kill everything quick enough.
-Survival Horror...? You're just desperate to find an argument now. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a Survival Horror game, and doesn't include a hunger bar.
-Saying "Its in Beta" is not an excuse or a valid argument. We know its in beta, WE ALL KNOW, ITS IN BETA (not everyone, but anyone here with enough common sense does). Because its in beta, is why we are here, discussing.

Also, like you said "You're meant to die, hunger would detract from the experience", I say to you, You're meant to explore and have awesome fun, hunger detracts from the experience. Imagine if Borderlands had a hunger bar, Imagine if Halo had a hunger bar, imagine if Metroid had a hunger bar, IT ISN'T FUN, because those games know what they are, and they play by their strengths. Its just like Bioshock Infinite, the gameplay occasionally got in the way of the story. I'm just saying, someone who just went through a horrifying experience, should not be that happy, about opening locks.

I didn't read the whole thread, so i apologize.

I like finding recipe's and cooking them. I also like how each race has their own delicacies. I have a notepad document of all the buffs and how full i get when i eat certain things. I have a decent farm on my home planet, collecting each seed i find, to try and make more food and stuff. I have refrigerators full of finished product foods, and cabinets of pre-finished foods and then chests of seeds. So, I am ready to cook anything i can find a recipe for. It's part of the exploratory fun for me. Granted, once i find some good awesome health regen food, i'll just use that, but that wont stop me from making new recipes. I am always providing people with food when they start beeping. I don't mind. Its what I do.

I never said anything about being meant to die?
Also, i'll try to be as civil as possible, and i ask you to do the same, because asking "what if a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER had a hunger bar" is truly desperate.
As i've said, risk of rain is no where close to survival. Its a rougelike. Risk of rain is where you're meant to die, not starbound.
Amnesia, the dark descent is a different kind of survival horror, arguably just horror.
Don't Starve has darker themes to it, so I wouldn't discount psychological horror.
    Please be constructive, not insulting.

If your character would auto-eat out of your inventory, the system would be a lot better.

The hunger system is good. Makes the game more realistic and makes the player focus on more than "kill and mine". I've been deep in caves killing and mining when the hunger alarm went off. It adds to the challenge because I have to address the issue immediately or die, or remember to address it periodically as I'm playing.

I have meat in my #3 hotkey. When I see I'm down three foods, I just press 3 and click. But when I forget because I'm too focused on "kill and mine", then it gets more interesting.

I don't think the hunger system should be removed, I quite like farming, cooking up food and the buffs it gives. However, what I would like is a function to pause the game so that I may go AFK for a few minutes without finding my character has starved or been killed by monsters. A pause function would be so much more convenient than walling my character in, putting it in a tent/bed and placing a campfire each time ...

I quote this directly from the steam page:

In Starbound, you take on the role of a character who’s just fled from their home planet, only to crash-land on another. From there you’ll embark on a quest to survive, discover, explore and fight your way across an infinite universe.

    Hyppocrite?

I was talking about Risk of Rain being a game where youre meant to die. Starbound is not that. taking my words out of context is a cowards game.

We ARE talking about the STARBOUND hunger system right?
    Not risk of rain
, which is what I was talking about here:

You are quoting incorrectly, Horizon metions that you are supposed to die in risk of rain while in starbound you dont have die.

When people start becoming so aggressive, I stop listening. I made my points, and certain people, mainly those who joined only a week or two ago, take everything out context and ignore the meaning.

People these days know more of the context of what they're told than what is.

Unfortunately, some people believe that because they've been there the longest, they should go unquestioned.
So too was unwise of Einstien to not believe quantum physics, so too were those who said the earth was flat,
and so too those who used to think pluto was a planet, and that trees give out the most amount of oxygen.

Neophobia and Xenophobia are the enemy of the man who seeks truth.
